Unsung Hero: Examining Gabe Vincent’s Stats To Identify X-Factor

Point Guard Could Be Miami’s Secret Weapon

The Miami Heat team became just the second eighth seed to reach the Finals thanks to the surprisingly astounding play of its role players. Caleb Martin and Max Strus get plenty of the love. But Gabe Vincent could be who ultimately decides how far this team can go. Gabe Vincent’s stats identify key reasons for Miami’s success.

Vincent Takes Over Point Guard Duties

The Miami Heat hoped Kyle Lowry would elevate the team’s point guard position when they acquired him from the Raptors. But as Lowry began to show his age, the team did not trade for a new star point guard. Instead, they promoted from within Gabe Vincent took over Lowry’s position.

The 26-year-old began starting for Miami permanently on February 4. While the dividends did not pay off immediately (Miami went 15-14 in this span), Vincent has slowly come into his own. The Heat did win four of its last five games and did better on the NBA spreads.

But it’s in the playoffs where Vincent started to shine. In Game 1 against the Bucks, Vincent scored 15 points and added six assists. He shot 4-of-5 from 3-point range and was +11 in over 33 minutes of playing time. The Heat cashed out as underdogs on the NBA betting lines, their first of many.

Vincent provides both consistent long-range shooting and playmaking for Miami. The Heat are 6-1 in the playoffs when he has at least five assists and 5-2 when he makes over 40 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Gabe Vincent’s Player Profile & Stats

Gabe Vincent’s stats in the 2023 NBA Playoffs are nothing to sneeze at. He is not blowing anyone away like Martin, but he’s providing enough scoring and playmaking to hold his own. Not bad for an undrafted player the Heat signed in 2020.

Vincent’s 2022-23 NBA Season Stats

Vincent is having his best season since debuting in the NBA. He has put up career-highs in points, rebounds, and minutes played. Much of that is thanks to finally carving out a starter role, which he started in 2021-22.

A glimpse of Gabe Vincent’s stats shows he’s stepped up during the playoffs. He even posted a career-high 29 points as Miami blew Boston out to go up 3-0 in the series. As long as he can continue producing as the team’s PG, Vincent should continue to see plenty of playing time.

What is the Future for Vincent?

Vincent will be an unrestricted free agent following this season. Given his important role for Miami, the Heat should look to re-sign him. Otherwise, another contender with cap space will court him. Either way, Vincent has secured himself as an NBA-caliber player.
