Jetsetting Warriors in Another Back-to-Back

There is no rest for the wicked or in the Warriors’ case, the weary. Golden State is back at it in New Orleans in a game where the team is likely to sit Klay Thompson, the hero in Sunday’s win over Houston. The five-time All-Star erupted for 41 points by nailing 10 3s. He badly needed that game as he’s struggled all season, shooting just 36.3 percent from the field prior.

Curry also added 33 points, which included a game-clinching 3 in the final stretch of the game. Together, the “Splash Brothers” combined for 74 points on 17 3-pointers. Golden State as a team shot 51.1 percent from deep to win their first road game albeit failing to cover the spread.

“Steph is amazing, [the world] kinda takes for granted how great he really is,” Thompson said in the post-game interview. “The only point guard I’ve ever known to share the backcourt with. When we both got it going on, you know what that means, it’s just – there’s no stopping that.”

Indeed, it’s tough to beat Golden State when the team is shooting lights out. But pessimists will point to their lackluster defense keeping the Rockets close in what was supposed to be a blowout. Now, the Warriors don’t get to rest as they are in the busy part of their NBA season schedule. This coming game will be their sixth in eight days.

Golden State is 1-2 and 2-1 against the spread (ATS) on the second night of a back-to-back this season. That one win came against San Antonio at the Chase Center. They had already previously played the Pelicans in New Orleans without any rest just a few weeks ago. They lost 114-105 though they covered the spread as 10.5-point underdogs.

It’s unlikely that Golden State can replicate their hot shooting. Thus, the Warriors vs Pelicans betting odds are against them as the Pels will look to beat them again even without their star player.

Pelicans Boast Plenty of Depth

The Pelicans’ superstar, Zion Williamson, could miss his fourth straight game with an ankle injury. The 22-year-old has been injury-prone in his young NBA career and has already missed five games. Williamson is putting up 23.5 points on 56.6 percent shooting. But the Pels have been fine without him as the team’s offense picks up a little.

The duo currently combine to score 40 of the team’s 116.2 points per game, which is sixth-best in the NBA.

New Orleans is 3-2 without Williamson and are currently 9-7 overall, ninth on the NBA standings for the West. The Pelicans already qualified for the playoffs last season without Williamson thanks to the likes of Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum. The duo currently combine to score 40 of the team’s 116.2 points per game, which is sixth-best in the NBA.

But it’s not just the team’s main players and their offense. New Orleans is one of the best two-way teams in the NBA and is sixth in net rating (3.9) because of it. NBA Players like Herb Jones, Larry Nance Jr., and even rookie Dyson Daniels are putting in valuable contributions at different roles.

“I’m thankful to coach this team,” Willie Green said following their win over Memphis last Tuesday. “We put guys on the floor that can do all of those things. [Our front office] has done an amazing job of continuing to build our roster.”

The Pelicans may be just outside the top six in the West right now, but this team already holds wins over Memphis, Dallas, and Golden State. If they can deliver per the Warriors vs Pelicans betting odds, make that two wins over the defending NBA champions.
