WNBA Betting Preview: Aces vs Mystics Odds

The Las Vegas Aces and Washington Mystics meet for the third and final time this season with player Elena Delle Donne and company owning the 2-0 series lead this season. Despite their lack of success over Washington, the Aces vs Mystics odds are in favor of Las Vegas. The WNBA betting odds for this game opened at Aces -3.5 but have moved half a point in favor of the Mystics. Both teams come into Tuesday’s matchup having won their previous game. The Aces beat up on a terrible Indiana Fever team to earn their seventh win in their last eight games. Meanwhile, the Mystics edged out the Seattle Storm for a 6-2 record over their last eight games. Both teams of the WNBA are playing some of their best basketball right now, but we think the Aces vs Mystics odds are more favorable for Washington at +3.

These two teams met for the first time this season back in May with Washington earning the 89-76 win at home after rallying from a 13-point deficit at the half. While the two teams were fairly even in most statistical categories in that game, Washington forced Vegas into 16 turnovers while only surrendering nine themselves. Nearly a month later, the Mystic beat the Aces again, this time in Las Vegas, with a final score of 87-86 in overtime.

Washington’s defense is what they’ve hung their hats on all season and what won them both of those games against the Aces. They held Vegas to its lowest scoring output of the season with 76 points in the first meeting. Vegas has also only scored 86 points or less on seven different occasions this year. And keep in mind that those 86 points in their second meeting with the Mystic included overtime. Washington knows that they have the ability to disrupt Vegas offensively which is something that not many teams can do.

The Aces’ schedule as of late has also allowed them to put their season on cruise control. Their last four games have featured three meetings with the Indiana Fever, who are the worst team in the league, and one with the Los Angeles Sparks. Vegas knows that unless they have an epic meltdown over these last few weeks of the season they’ll more than likely earn the top seed in the West. The motivation just isn’t there right now for the Aces and we think the Mystics can take advantage.

Washington is just a game and a half behind the Connecticut Sun for the second seed in the East. They have a fairly favorable schedule to finish out the season with the only other big test against Chicago on Friday, August 5. Other than that, they take on the Sparks once and Fever twice to close out the regular season. A win and series sweep against the Aces would give Washington a boost of confidence heading into the final stretch and set them up for a solid run of wins heading into the playoffs.

Washington has also played at the second slowest pace in the league over their last five games and as the home team, we expect them to dictate the pace in this game. While the Aces’ defense has been pretty porous this season, they rank second in defensive rating over their last five games.
