Friday’s matchup between the Washington Mystics and Chicago Sky features two of the best WNBA players with Elena Delle Donne and Candace Parker going head-to-head. The season series between these two teams have been very evenly matched with Chicago leading 2-1. The Mystic and Sky odds opened with the home team being a six-point favorite but has moved a half point in favor of the Mystics.
- Game: Washington Mystics (20-12) vs Chicago Sky (23-8)
- Location: Wintrust Arena
- Day/Time: Friday, 7:00 p.m. ET
If we look at how both these teams have been playing as of late, Washington has been by far the better team. They’ve won five of their last six games and are coming off a big win over the Las Vegas Aces despite being underdogs.
Chicago on the other hand has struggled recently, going 2-2 in their last four games with one of those wins coming via a narrow victory against the Sun in overtime. In their last outing, the Sky lost to Dallas at home despite the Wing’s best player Arike Ogunbowale being sidelined with an ankle injury.
Something just doesn’t seem quite right with Chicago right now and they’ll need to figure it out soon if they want to make another run at the WNBA finals. The Sky have also struggled to cover the spread at home with a 6-9-1 ATS record at Wintrust Arena. The Mystics on the other hand have an 11-5 ATS record on the road. Can you tell which way we’re leaning in this game?
An intangible factor that we could see playing into tonight’s outcome is the fact that the Mystics have a much easier schedule than Chicago to finish out the season. Washington’s final three games are against the Los Angeles Sparks and two matchups with the Indiana Fever.
Both those games should be easily winnable, meaning their matchup with Chicago is their final big test of the season. While it’s going to be hard for the Mystics to make a jump to the No. 3 seed in the standings, they’ll come into Friday’s game hungry to get a win in their last big challenge of the regular season.
Comparatively, Chicago has one of the tougher schedules to end the season with games against the Las Vegas Aces, Connecticut Sun, and Seattle Storm. Those three teams occupy seeds 2-4, which are the three spots immediately below Chicago in the standings. While we don’t expect the Sky to take the Mystic lightly, Chicago knows in the back of their mind that they’re in for a tough stretch of games.
The Mystic vs Sky odds having already moved in favor of Washington tells us that there is money backing the Mystics and we agree with that movement. Delle Donne didn’t play in the second meeting in which Washington lost by nine and only played seven minutes in the third meeting, which Washington won.
Knowing that they have already beat Chicago once, and without their star play, should give the Mystic plenty of confidence coming into this one. We’ll take the Mystics and the points tonight.Follow us on Twitter
