WNBA Betting Preview: Sky vs Aces Head to Head

Sky Look For Win to Secure No. 1 Seed

The Chicago Sky and Las Vegas Aces meet for the fourth and final time in what could be a potential preview of the WNBA championship. The two teams played two regular season games, in which they are tied 1-1. They also played for the Commissioners Cup, which Vegas won, however, that win doesn’t count towards their overall record. Being they’re the top two teams in the WNBA standings, the Sky vs Aces Head to Head are very short with Las Vegas only a 1.5-point favorite at home. The series has alternated wins with Vegas taking games one and three (Commissioners Cup) and Chicago winning game two. Can Candace Parker and company get the win on Thursday to secure the top seed for this year’s postseason? Let’s dive in.

Game Information

    • Matchup: Chicago Sky (25-9) at Las Vegas Aces (24-10)
    • Location: Michelob ULTRA Arena
    • Day/Time:

The Chicago Sky comes into Michelob ULTRA Arena off a loss to the Seattle Storm in their previous outing, yet they still sit atop the WNBA standings with a 25-9 record. The Aces are in the number two spot and, with a 24-10 record, are just one game behind the Sky. Only two regular-season contests remain on the WNBA games schedule for both teams, including this one, meaning we could see the two teams flip flop in the standings depending on the outcome in those games.

This game has huge playoff implications because the Sky can clinch the No. 1 seed with a win. If the Aces win, they would have the same record as Chicago and own the tiebreaker over them which would move Vegas into first place. The Aces would then have to win their final regular season game or hope Chicago loses their final game in order to stay there.

Because of the major implications that this game presents, we are going to look to play the under 174.5. Neither team’s defense has been anything to write home about this season, but you should expect both teams to step it up a notch on that end of the floor.

This game has all the makings for a play-off-type atmosphere. Plus, Chicago’s defense was absolutely atrocious in their last outing against the Storm. They allowed Seattle to put up 111 points on 58.7% shooting from the field and 45.8% from three. Head coach James Wade couldn’t have been happy with that performance and we expect his team to look much different tonight.

Two out of the three meetings this season finished over Thursday’s Sky vs Aces Head to Head total of 174.5, but that should not be a reason to rush and bet the over. The final score in their second meeting soared over with the two teams putting up a combined 199 points. However, the Sky shot just under 60% from the field and nearly 50% from deep, while Vegas shot over 40% in both categories.

We don’t anticipate that being the case tonight. Their third meeting also surpassed Thursday’s total, but only by 1.5 points. Turnovers were an issue for both teams in that game which led to extra offensive possessions, something that both teams should limit in their final meeting.

Overall this should be a very intense, highly-contested game with both teams paying extra attention to detail. With the Sky vs Aces Head to Head at -1.5, we don’t see a strong angle on the side, so the total is our favorite play. Take the under.
