ACC Betting Preview: UNC at Virginia is Game of the Week

Duke at Clemson Another Key ACC Game

The ACC betting preview starts off with a big one, as North Carolina visits Virginia. It ends with another intriguing game, as Duke visits Clemson on Saturday in a potential upset. There are no games between two ranked NCAAB teams but it’s another good slate of ACC basketball.

Tuesday, Jan. 10

North Carolina Tar Heels vs Virginia Cavaliers

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: John Paul Jones Arena (Charlottesville, Virginia)
Streaming: ESPN

The NCAAB point spreads show the Cavaliers are favored by 4.5 and the total on the game is 135. As one would expect, the Tar Heels get the edge offensively but it’s closer than one would think. North Carolina ranks No. 13 in adjusted offensive efficiency.

But the Cavaliers are No. 23. Virginia doesn’t shoot as often as other teams but when they do, the Cavaliers make the most of it. The Cavaliers are shooting 38% from 3-point range and UNC isn’t great at defending the 3-pointer. If Virginia gets hot from the outside, it can pull away from North Carolina.

The Cavaliers score 32.1% of their points from 3-point range. If the total holds steady, the over could be worth a look due to Virginia’s outside shooting.

Wednesday, Jan. 11

Pittsburgh Panthers vs Duke Blue Devils

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Cameron Indoor Stadium (Durham, N.C.)
Streaming: ACC Network

The NCAA college basketball lines should have the Blue Devils close to a 7-point favorite for this one. Duke gets a big edge defensively.

The Panthers can score but aren’t in Duke’s league when it comes to stopping the opposition. Pitt is No. 99 in adjusted defensive efficiency. The Blue Devils are No. 40. Pittsburgh scores plenty of points from 3-point range but face a Duke team that is No. 25 in the country defending the 3-pointer.

Duke’s offensive strength is offensive rebounding. If the Blue Devils get a lot of second chances they have the talent to pull away from Pitt.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Syracuse Orangemen

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: JMA Wireless Dome (Syracuse, N.Y.)
Streaming: ESPN+

The ACC betting preview shows Virginia Tech likely to be small road favorites in this one, which could be an entertaining game.

The Hokies are better offensively and defensively than Syracuse but enter this one a four-game losing streak. All four games have been close but good teams find a way to win those games. Syracuse has to tighten up on the offensive boards if they want to have a chance to win.

Saturday, Jan. 14

Miami Hurricanes vs North Carolina State Wolfpack

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: PNC Arena (Raleigh, N.C.)
Streaming: ESPN+

The final day of the ACC betting preview kicks off with an entertaining game between the Miami Hurricanes and N.C. State.

‘The Wolfpack should be small favorites of close to 3.5 points. That will automatically attract a few bets on the home team due to the popularity of the unranked home favorite system.’

The Wolfpack deserve to be favored here based on what they’ve done so far. N.C. State is quite a bit better defensively than Miami and also shoot the 3-pointer better. The Wolfpack should enjoy an advantage on the offensive glass and that could turn out to be one of the deciding factors in this one.

Duke Blue Devils vs Clemson Tigers

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Littlejohn Coliseum (Clemson, S.C.)
Streaming: ACC Network

This game is going to be pretty close to even. The Blue Devils get the slimmest of edges on offense and defense but with the Tigers being at home, it could go either way.

The Blue Devils are 1-2 in ACC road games, having just beaten Boston College 65-64. The Eagles aren’t as good as Clemson. The Tigers are coming off nice road wins over Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech. Clemson hasn’t lost at home this season, so the Tigers have to be given some consideration in this one.

The Tigers are a better shooting team than the Blue Devils but Duke is much better at getting offensive rebounds. One of Clemson’s strengths defensively is preventing offensive boards, where the Tigers are No. 33 in the nation. The Blue Devils are riding the coattails of previous teams.

If the Blue Devils are favored or the game is even, the Tigers deserve a serious look. This one has definite upset possibility.
