ACC Betting Roundup: No. 25 North Carolina at Pitt Highlights Week

Tar Heels Return to the Top 25

The ACC doesn’t have any marquee games this weekend but there are some decent college basketball matchups on the slate. North Carolina the preseason favorite, has a tough road game at Pitt in what is likely the best game of the week in the conference.

North Carolina Tar Heels vs Pitt Panthers

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Petersen Events Center (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)
Streaming: ACC Network

North Carolina (9-4) visits the Pitt Panthers (9-4) for an early game on Friday and UNC is likely going to be a small favorite in this one. The teams have identical 9-4 records but the Tar Heels have played a much tougher schedule. Still, you have to respect the Pirates, who have won eight of their last nine games. While big things were expected from North Carolina prior to the season, the Panthers weren’t expected to do much in conference, with the team’s ACC tournament odds in the bottom half. Pitt has played better on offense than defense this season but the Panthers can’t match the Tar Heels. North Carolina’s D’Marco Dunn is still on the college basketball injury report and it’s unknown when he’ll return.

Miami Hurricanes vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Joyce Center (South Bend, Indiana)
Streaming: ACC Network

No. 14 Miami (12-1) visits the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-5) for a Friday afternoon game. The Panthers have been winning against a schedule that is average, while Notre Dame has been winning less against a schedule that’s weaker. The Hurricanes should be favored by about 3.5 points in this one. Miami’s offense is one of the best around, ranking No. 14 in adjusted offensive efficiency. Notre Dame’s defense has been bad, ranking No. 204. Miami’s defense isn’t great but it’s the better of the two on the court. Miami is living up to preseason expectations that saw its ACC tournament odds as low. Take the Hurricanes if you’re going to play this one.

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs Clemson Tigers

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Littlejohn Coliseum (Clemson, S.C.)
Streaming: ACC Network

North Carolina State (11-3) visits Clemson (10-3) to wrap-up an ACC Network tripleheader. The Tigers will be small favorites at home and the two NCAAB teams are fairly even. The key to this one will be Clemson‘s ability to keep the Wolfpack from getting offensive rebounds. If the Tigers control the boards, they win this one and are worth a good look.

Saturday, Dec. 31 Games

Florida State Seminoles vs Duke Blue Devils

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Cameron Indoor Stadium (Durham, N.C.)
Streaming: ESPN 2

Florida State (4-10) visits No. 17 Duke (10-3) in a game that looked a little better before the start of the season. Florida State has struggled a bit more than most people thought. Cam’Ron Fletcher was one of the more costly NCAAB injuries and he’s likely done for the year for FSU. The Blue Devils were a solid No. 2 in the preseason ACC tournament odds, behind the Tar Heels, and haven’t shown any reason why they won’t be a force the rest of the season. The line here is going to be big, with the Blue Devils close to 17-point favorites, and deservedly so.

Virginia Cavaliers vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: McCamish Pavilion (Atlanta, Georgia)
Streaming: ACC Network

No. 13 Virginia (8-2) heads to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech (7-5) in an early New Year’s Eve game. The Cavaliers are going to be decent-sized road favorites here, with the line close to Cavaliers -8. Virginia has a massive edge on both sides of the ball and the Cavaliers have done a great job of getting to the foul line this NCAAB season. The Cavaliers were No. 3 in the preseason ACC tournament odds and are living up to that so far. The Yellow Jackets have been good defensing the 3-pointer and if Georgia Tech can take that away this one could be closer than expected.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Joel Coliseum Winston-Salem, N.C.)
Streaming: ESPN+

Virginia Tech (11-2) visits Wake Forest (9-4) in another early New Year’s Eve game and this one should be entertaining. Both offenses are decent, with Virginia Tech ranking No. 24 in adjusted offensive efficiency and Wake Forest ranking No. 63.

“The Hokies are a bit better on defense. This one could come down to Wake Forest’s defending the 3-pointer. The Deacons are No. 220 in college basketball, allowing 51.2%, which isn’t going to get the job done in the ACC.”

The Hokies will be favored by a couple and the Deacons have played a slightly tougher schedule. The home underdog is going to be worth a look in this one.
