Big 12 Betting Preview: Iowa State at Kansas Game of the Week

TCU at Texas Another Battle of Ranked Teams

The Big 12 betting preview shows a number of big games this week, including two matchups of ranked NCAAB teams on Saturday. But Big 12 fans won’t have to wait that long for some good action, as Tuesday offers a couple of decent matchups. Wednesday brings a good matchup between ranked teams TCU and Texas. A solid slate of games for the Big 12 Conference.

Tuesday, Jan. 10

Oklahoma State Cowboys vs Kansas State Wildcats

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Bramlage Coliseum (Manhattan, Kansas)
Streaming: ESPNU

Kansas State is favored by 5 and the total is 138 in this one. The kenpom college basketball ratings have this one a little closer, with a three-point win for KSU. The Cowboys get the edge on defense, but the Wildcats have a significant offensive advantage.

Oklahoma State makes too many turnovers, ranking No. 330 in all of college basketball. The Wildcats are strong at forcing turnovers, ranking No. 32. The Cowboys can’t afford to lose too many possessions in this one or they will have an uphill battle.

Iowa State Cyclones vs Texas Tech Red Raiders

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Hilton Coliseum (Ames, Iowa)
Streaming: Big 12 Network/ESPN+

Iowa State is favored by 6 and the total on this one is 129, as points are expected to be tough to come by. Both teams are much better defensively than they are offensively. Iowa State ranks No. 12 in adjusted defensive efficiency and Texas Tech is No. 24.

The Red Raiders are solid on offense when they’re not turning over the ball, which they do far too often. It doesn’t help that Iowa State is No. 1 in the country at forcing turnovers. Texas Tech can keep this one close if they take care of the ball.

Oklahoma Sooners vs Kansas Jayhawks

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Allen Fieldhouse (Lawrence, Kansas)
Streaming: ESPN2

Kansas is favored by 9.5 and the total on this one is 133.5. The Sooners aren’t a bad team at all, it’s just that Kansas is a bit better offensively and defensively.

Oklahoma is another team that hurts itself by being careless with the ball at times. You can’t give the Jayhawks extra possessions and expect to be in the game. The Sooners shoot better than Kansas but are ranked 30 spots behind the Jayhawks in offensive efficiency due to turning the ball over.

Wednesday, Jan. 11

TCU Horned Frogs vs Texas Longhorns

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Moody Center (Austin, Texas)
Streaming: ESPN2

The second day of the Big 12 betting preview shows the Horned Frogs a bit overrated, as they’re ranked No. 17 but are not the 17th-best team in the country.

TCU should be around No. 30-35. The Horned Frogs don’t shoot well enough to be a top 20 team and things aren’t expected to be easy against a strong Texas defense.

‘Longhorns will be favored close to 8 points and if it’s lower, Texas deserves a look.’

TCU is No. 173 in effective field goal percentage but they do get to the line a fair number of times. Texas is a solid offensive team, especially from the inside, where they shoot 57% on 2-pointers. The Longhorns will be favored close to 8 points and if it’s lower, Texas deserves a look.

Saturday, Jan. 14

Kansas State Wildcats vs TCU Horned Frogs

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Schollmaier Arena (Fort Worth, Texas)
Streaming: ESPN2

The final day of the Big 12 betting preview begins with a good one, as Kansas State visits TCU. The Horned Frogs will be small favorites but check the NCAAB scores from earlier in the week. Either team could show a bit of a letdown if they win their earlier games in the week.

These two teams are evenly matched in a lot of areas. This one could come down to second chances. Both teams are strong on the offensive glass, while allowing too many offensive rebounds. Getting extra shots in this one could turn out to be the difference.

Iowa State Cyclones vs Kansas Jayhawks

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Allen Fieldhouse (Lawrence, Kansas)
Streaming: Big 12 Network/ESPN+

The Jayhawks will be close to double-digit favorites in this one due to being a superior offensive team. Iowa State can come close to matching Kansas defensively but the Jayhawks are No. 8 in adjusted offensive efficiency. Iowa State is No. 95.

The teams are pretty much even in 2-point field goal percentage but Kansas has a big edge in 3-point shooting and a bit of an edge at the foul line. Neither team gets to the line much, which could bode well for the under.

Texas Tech Red Raiders vs Texas Longhorns

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Moody Center (Austin, Texas)
Streaming: ESPN

The Longhorns host a fellow Texas team for the second straight game and Texas should be close to 8-point favorites. This one is another case of both teams being strong defensively but one having a big edge on offense. Texas is No. 15 in adjusted offensive efficiency.

The Red Raiders are No. 78, with turnovers being a key reason why. Texas Tech can shoot well enough to keep it close provided it doesn’t give the ball away too many times. If the line is 8 or higher, the Red Raiders deserve a look.
