Big East Basketball Odds: UConn Slim Favorites at Marquette

Marquette Visits Xavier on Sunday

The Big East basketball odds indicate a couple of exciting games on Wednesday and a few other good matchups during the week. The Big East has several of the better college basketball matchups this week. It’s tough to beat Wednesday’s two games, as they’re two of the top three or four on the schedule.

CREI Creighton Blue Jays vs Xavier Musketeers XAV

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Cintas Center (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Streaming: Fox Sports 1

Creighton (9-7) visits Xavier (13-3) and the Big East basketball odds show Xavier as a 3-point favorite with a total of 152.5. Both teams have played tough schedules but the Musketeers have a much better record.

Xavier is No. 7 is adjusted offensive efficiency and No. 77 on defense. Creighton is No. 30 on offense and No. 25 on defense. Creighton scores a lot of points on 3-pointers and Xavier is bad defending the 3-pointer, so a bit of a matchup edge to Creighton.

The Blue Jays are a little better than average against the 3-pointer and Xavier is No. 4 in the country, hitting 40.8% but they are selective. The number looks to be pretty spot on.

Connecticut Huskies vs Marquette Warriors

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Fiserv Forum (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)
Streaming: CBS Sports Network

The Huskies are 1-point favorites and the total is 146.5. Connecticut (15-2) is No. 6 in the country and Marquette (13-4) is No. 25.

The two offenses are both top-notch. It’s UConn’s defense that looks to be the difference in the game. The Huskies are No. 4 in adjusted defensive efficiency. Marquette is No. 79.

The Huskies shoot a lot of 3-pointers and Marquette is nothing special defending the 3. Connecticut is going to be tough to knock off in this one.

Friday, Jan. 13

VILL Villanova Wildcats vs Butler Bulldogs BUT

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Hinkle Fieldhouse (Indianapolis, Indiana)
Streaming: Fox Sports 1

This one isn’t one of the marquee Big East Conference games this week but it’s still a solid matchup. The Big East basketball odds should have Villanova as the slightest of favorites.

The Wildcats are better offensively, while Butler is much better on defense. The Wildcats score 38% of their points from 3-point range but the Bulldogs defend the 3 fairly well. Villanova doesn’t defend the 3-pointer well, so Butler could attempt a few more than usual.

The Wildcats get the edge in a close game, as Villanova is the best foul shooting team in the country.

Saturday, Jan. 14

PROV Providence Friars vs Creighton Blue Jays CREI

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: CHI Health Center Omaha (Omaha, Nebraska)
Streaming: Fox Sports 1

Another tough game for Creighton, which hosts a solid Providence team in this one. The Blue Jays will be favored by 5 points here with a total in the mid-140s.

Creighton is a little better defensively than the Friars but neither team forces many turnovers. The Friars score 23.5% of their points from the foul line but the Blue Jays are one of the best teams in the country in limiting opponents’ free throws.

Creighton will be shooting a number of 3-pointers and the Blue Jays score 35% of their points behind the arc. If Creighton gets hot from the outside it could win this one going away.

Sunday, Jan. 15

Marquette Warriors vs Xavier Musketeers

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: Cintas Center (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Streaming: FOX

Marquette visits Xavier with both NCAAB teams coming off big games earlier in the week. The Big East basketball odds should have Xavier as small favorites, probably about 3 points.

Both teams have been solid on offense with the defense playing well, but not as good as the two offenses. The total is going to be high in this one, most likely in the low 160s, but that may not be enough.

With both teams playing at a fast pace, the over looks to be one of the best NCAAB bets of the day.

SJU St. John’s Red Storm vs Connecticut Huskies CONN

Date, Time & Streaming:
Location: XL Center (Hartford, Connecticut)
Streaming: Fox Sports 1

The Huskies are going to be huge favorites in the this game, with the line close to Connecticut -15. UConn is going to be coming off four straight tough games, so St. John’s could catch the Huskies in a letdown spot.

‘The Red Storm aren’t a bad team but they can’t keep up with the number of big guns in the conference. St. John’s isn’t a great shooting team but still play at the fastest tempo in the country.’

The Red Storm score 62.2% of their points from 2-point range and the Huskies defend the 2-pointer pretty well. St. John’s could very well run themselves into a blowout but are catching the Huskies at an ideal time.
