There were plenty of restrictions when it come to contacting one of the top incoming freshmen in the college basketball universe. Let’s take a look at the Bronny James college odds.
Southern California navigated that challenging circumstances to secure a commitment from the 6-foot-3 guard.
Looking at the NCAA basketball picks and parlays, USC finished tied for second in the Pac-12 standings during the 2022-23 NCAAB regular season. The Trojans lost their first game in both the Pac-12 and NCAA tournaments. Still, they are priced at +2200 (tied for UCLA for second among Pac-12 teams) when it comes to the NCAA picks. Now they have a top-10 rated recruiting class.
Big Man on Campus?
Naturally, with his father a star of the Los Angeles Lakers and one of the best players in NBA history, Bronny James will arrive at USC with plenty of fanfare.
However, looking at the Bronny James college odds, he is not even the top-rated player in his recruiting class.
According to the 247sports.com Class of 2023 recruiting database, guard Isaiah Collier is the No. 2 rated player in the class and he only recently dropped out of the No. 1 spot.
Oregon-bound forward Kwame “KJ” Evans Jr. and future Stanford forward Andrej Stojakovic as well as Oregon commit Jackson Shelstad are all ranked ahead of Bronny.
James, who played at Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles, is the No. 26 rated player in the Class of 2023. Bronny averaged 14 points and 5.5 rebounds as a senior.
He won’t the only newcomer into the USC program with a famous father as D.J. Rodman, the son of multiple-time NBA champion Dennis Rodman is also headed there.
Another incoming freshman to watch is 6-foot-9 center Arrinten Page, who just fell out of the top 50 in the national recruiting rankings.
What About the Trojans?
Boogie Ellis led USC in scoring a season ago when he had 11 games with at 20 points and three 30-point efforts.
The Trojans will have to replace No. 2 scorer and leadingn rebounder Drew Peterson.
Three of USC’s top five scorers last season were either freshmen or sophomores, so this freshman class isn’t being asked to play the role of program saviors.
Andy Enfield is going into his 11th season at USC and is looking to advance past the second round in the NCAA tournament for the first time.
Let’s Talk Recruiting
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
- Kentucky and Duke have not been shy about pursuing 1-and-done players. Once again, they have top recruiting classes.
- Kentucky has the No. 1 rated class followed by Duke and defending national champion UConn.
- Among Pac-12 programs, No. 8 USC and No. 10 Oregon are in the top 10 with UCLA next at No. 13.
- No. 1 national recruit Ron Holland originally committed to Texas. However, his status is up in the air.
- No. 3 Justin Edwards, No. 5 Aaron Bradshaw and No. 6 DJ Wagner are all headed to Kentucky.
- Duke had three of the top four recruits in 2022 and finished tied for third in the ACC so keep that in mind.
1-And-Done?
Bronny’s dad passed on playing in college and it was hard to argue with the decision as he averaged 20.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game as a 19-year-old rookie during the 2003-04 season.
LeBron, an Ohio native, landed in Cleveland as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.
His son is showing up in 2024 mock drafts as a late first-round pick. Time will tell if he jumps to the NBA after one season at USC or even what the interest level will be based on how he plays as a freshman. It will be worth keeping tabs on the Bronny James college odds.
There has been chatter that younger son Bryce might be the most talented of LeBron’s sons. Bryce was in the news when reports surfaced that he was leaving Sierra Canyon to attend Campbell Hall next season.
