The No. 4 seed Huskies steamrolled third-seeded Gonzaga 82-54 to reach their first Final Four since 2014 and sixth all-time. The four-time NCAA champions are the only remaining team with previous experience in the national semifinals.

UConn blitzed its West Regional foes, stringing together four wins of 15 points or more. They haven’t trailed since early in the second half of their round of 32 win over Saint Mary’s.

Jordan Hawkins led UConn with 20 points on six 3-pointers. Alex Karaban scored 12 points and Adama Sanogo finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for his second double-double of the tournament.

Gonzaga, the country’s top offense, shot only 33%, including 2-of-20 on 3-pointers, and scored its fewest points this season (32.1 below its season average).

Trailing by 13 points with 13:30 remaining, No. 5 seed Miami roared back to stun No. 2 seed Texas 88-81 as a 4.5-point underdog in the Midwest Regional final. In doing so, the Hurricanes did what they couldn’t in any of their previous NCAA Tournament trips: reach the Final Four.

They certainly earned it. The four teams they beat in the regional had a combined seeding of 19, including three of the top four seeds.

All five starters scored in double figures for Miami, led by Jordan Miller’s 27 points. Woogla Poplar and Nigel Pack added 16 and 15 points, respectively. The Hurricanes surpassed 80 points for the third straight game and are averaging 82.7 in the tournament.

Miami is now 13-2 since Jan. 31 and 29-7 overall. With a victory over UConn, the Hurricanes will break their single-season record for wins in a season.

This is the first trip to the Final Four for Miami but the second for head coach Jim Larrañaga, who took George Mason to the national semifinals in 2005-06. That stunning run included an upset of UConn in the Elite Eight.

The Hurricanes’ national championship odds are now+450, second-longest of the remaining teams behind UConn (-125) and San Diego State (+350).

Handicapping The Game

It’s hard to argue with the books here. UConn clearly looks like the team to beat. Outside of spotty first halves against Iona and Saint Mary’s, the Huskies have been dominant. The Huskies never trailed in Las Vegas, hammering Arkansas and Gonzaga by an average of 25.5 points.

In doing so, UConn improved to a combined 17-6 in Quad 1 and 2 games this season. The school’s only bad loss came in Big East play against St. John’s.

UConn ranks third nationally in Ken Pom’s adjusted offensive efficiency, two spots ahead of Miami. While the Huskies are potent from the perimeter, led by Hawkins (38.5% from 3-point range), they can also overpower opponents in the paint thanks to the 6-foot-9 Sanogo and 7-2 freshman Donovan Clingan. They’ll contend with6-7 Norchad Omier, who had 11 points and nine rebounds against Texas.

Miami has a trio of elite guards, led by Isaiah Wong, who is averaging a team-high 16.6 points and 3.2 assists per game.
The teams have combined to score 158.4 points per game, 8.9 more than the game’s total.
