March Madness is a one-of-a-kind moment in college basketball where the chaotic nature of upsets occurs. Even with a March Madness betting guide, it is hard to predict some successes or failures even from the best teams.
The first round of this year’s tournament was a perfect example of why you should create more than one bracket for your March Madness picks. For the second round, it still had the same chaotic energy.
Second Round Upset Alerts
The Kentucky Wildcats were the first two seed to suffer in this tournament. Looking at the history, it was bound to happen to at least one of the teams with a two seed.
The problem was, point spreads revealed they were 18-point favorites and they could not get it done. Looking ahead to Sunday’s second round of games, there are three different two seeds left. This March Madness betting guide features a few teams that might disappoint.
The team that is in the most danger is the Duke Blue Devils. They have had their ups and downs this season and are in an emotional battle trying to fulfill another championship for Coach K’s last season.
In addition, they are facing a tough Michigan State Spartans team that is coached by Tom Izzo. Both sides know each other’s style very well and it creates a unique situation compared to the other two seeds.
Another team that is primed for an upset is three seeded Wisconsin. They face the 11th seeded Iowa State Cyclones that clawed their way into the second round.
They both play in respectable conferences and have very close averages. This will be another close game, probably within five points or so.
Best Matchup to Watch
The second seeded Auburn Tigers face the 10th seed Miami Hurricanes. The Tigers are a legitimate threat to win the National Championship but must have strong guard play.
As for the Miami Hurricanes, they live and die by their shooting and are horrible on the boards. The interesting part about this is that they sometimes hang around the better teams close to the end.
The Hurricanes have challenged the Duke Blue Devils twice and split the meetings in close battles. In fact, those were the two best games they had all year.
This is a team that can turn it on in the second half, no matter who they are playing. They may not be able to defeat the Tigers, but they can provide fans with a nail-biter.
Teams That Can Make Buckets When it Matters
Eighth seed North Carolina Tar Heels somewhat upset one seeded Baylor in Saturday’s second round games. Down the stretch, they were able to make shots and free throws.
Teams that can sink free throws are more dependable late in the tournament and a key element for a March Madness betting guide. Think of Villanova, Ohio State and North Carolina, as they are in the top 50 for best free throw percentage.
One team that struggles to make free throws is the TCU Horned Frogs. The ninth seeded Frogs take on one seeded Arizona Wildcats, which free throws might make all the difference in this game.
