SEC Basketball Betting 2022: Nick’s Got Nothing

Kentucky Wildcats top Rocky Top, Looking for More

Return Of Freshman Star Makes Arkansas Dangerous Foe

When looking at the SEC basketball betting lines, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Alabama are all favored on the road with Auburn the only home favorite in the four SEC games slated for Wednesday night. This is the first time Vanderbilt is favored on the road against LSU since 2011.

Alabama lasted just one week atop the national polls and the Crimson Tide are now second in both the Associated Press and coaches’ polls.

Tennessee dropped to 11th in the AP poll and 13th in the coaches’ poll. No. 25 Texas A&M is the only other SEC team in the top 25. Kentucky, Arkansas and Missouri are also receiving votes in the AP poll.

When looking at the college basketball injury report, Kentucky is without starting point guard Sahvir Wheeler while CJ Fredrick is questionable for Wednesday’s game against Florida. The news is worse for Florida as leading scorer and rebounder Colin Castleton is expected to miss the rest of the season with a hand injury.

Alabama and Tennessee remain second and third in the latest NCAA NET rankings as the Crimson Tide is very much in play for a No. 1 seed when the March Madness bracket comes out. Arkansas is 19th, Texas A&M 27th, Auburn 30th and Kentucky 33rd.

Alabama (+800) is second to Houston in the odds to win the national title while Tennessee (+2200) is tied for eighth.

Game of the Week

Arkansas Razorbacks vs Alabama Crimson Tide

Date & Time: Saturday, Feb. 25, 2:00 pm ET
Streaming: ESPN2

Nick Smith started the season with expectations to be one of the best freshmen in the country. His first season at Arkansas was disrupted when he missed nearly two months. After scoring 15 points in his first three games back, Smith erupted for 26 points and 10 rebounds in Tuesday’s win over Georgia.

When taking a look at the NCAAB standings, Alabama is the only SEC team yet to lose at home this season and the Crimson Tide will square off with an Arkansas team that is just 2-6 on the road.

Alabama is coming off a game against Georgia when they shot 62% from the field and drained 16 3-pointers while winning by 59. The bench nearly outscored the Georgia team thanks to 19 points from Nick Pringle and 13 from Rylan Griffen.

When Alabama won 84-69 on Jan. 11, it was the Crimson Tide’s third win in the last four games versus Arkansas.

Before facing Arkansas, Alabama will travel to play South Carolina on Wednesday night in a game being shown on ESPN2. The SEC basketball betting odds list the Crimson Tide as 17.5-point favorites.

Other Games to Watch

 Missouri Tigers vs Georgia Bulldogs

Date & Time: Saturday, Feb. 25, 1:00 pm ET
Streaming: SEC Network

Georgia has been outscored 205-124 in its last two games against Alabama and Arkansas so the hope is that the Bulldogs will offer more resistance when Missouri comes to town.

Kario Oquendo, who had 15 points in his previous two games, had 20 points in the loss to the Razorbacks.

Nick Honor’s 3-pointer with less than 10 seconds left in overtime listed Missouri to an overtime win against Mississippi State on Tuesday.

Missouri has won five of the last six games in the series. However, when looking at the SEC basketball betting history, Georgia has covered in three of the last four.

 Texas A&M vs Mississippi State

Date & Time: Saturday, Feb. 25, 3:30 pm ET
Streaming: SEC Network

Texas A&M solidified its hold on second place in the SEC standings with Tuesday’s win over Tennessee. The Aggies outscored the Volunteers 28-10 at the foul line. Wade Taylor and Julius Marble combined to go 25 of 30 from the line.

Tolu Smith has four double-doubles in the last eight games for Mississippi State with the Bulldogs going 3-1 in those contests.

Texas A&M has won three of the last four games against Mississippi State and covered in each of the wins.

 Auburn Tigers vs Kentucky Wildcats

Date & Time: Saturday, Feb. 25, 4:00 pm ET
Streaming: CBS

Auburn has dropped four of its last five games. The Auburn Tigers were competitive in all the losses and that included a three-point loss at Tennessee and an eight-point loss at home to Alabama.

Johni Broome is coming off back-to-back 20-point games for the Tigers.

Kentucky has struggled with consistency all season as the Wildcats followed up losses to Arkansas and Georgia by beating Mississippi State and then defeating Tennessee for the second time this season.

Kentucky attempted just eight 3-pointers against the Volunteers as the Wildcats outrebounded the Volunteers by eight and were able to score inside.

The home team has won each of the last five meetings between Kentucky and Auburn.

Kentucky travels to Florida on Wednesday while Auburn plays host to Ole Miss.

 South Carolina vs Tennessee

Date & Time: Saturday, Feb. 25, 6:00 pm ET
Streaming: SEC Network

It might be time to get concerned about the way things are going for Tennessee.

Once a contender to take over the first spot in the national polls, Tennessee has dropped four of the last five games. Tennessee sent Texas A&M to the line 34 times in Tuesday’s loss. The lone win during this recent slump was a victory that ultimately led to Alabama being knocked out of the top spot in the national polls.

Santiago Vescovi flirted with a triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the loss to Texas A&M.

It would be quite the understatement to suggest that this is a difficult stretch for South Carolina with back-to-back games against Alabama and Tennessee.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are coming off a season-high 82 points in a win over LSU as Gregory Jackson and Meechie Johnson each had 20 points.

South Carolina has lost nine of the last 10 meetings with Tennessee and failed to cover in each of the last five. The Gamecocks have also dropped nine of 10 to Alabama.

 Florida Gators vs Vanderbilt Commodores

Date & Time: Saturday, Feb. 25, 6:00 pm ET
Streaming: ESPN2

Vanderbilt is second only behind Texas A&M for the longest active winning streak in the SEC. A win over Tennessee is part of the Commodores‘ five-game winning streak.

Liam Robbins is averaging 22.6 points over those five games and he has been to the foul line 54 times during that stretch.

Florida looks to bounce back after missing 17 of 21 shots from 3-point range the last time out. Freshman Riley Kugel is averaging 15.5 points over the last four games for the Gators.

Vanderbilt snapped a nine-game losing streak to Florida with an 88-80 road win on Feb. 11 as Robbins had 32 points and 10 rebounds. It was the fifth time in the last seven games that went over the total.

Vanderbilt will face LSU on Wednesday as a two-point road favorite.

Louisiana State Tigers vs Ole Miss Rebels

Date & Time: Saturday, Feb. 25, 8:30 pm ET
Streaming: SEC Network

LSU is still looking for its first road win of the season. Perhaps facing the team just ahead of it in the standings will help the Tigers enjoy success away from home. Each of LSU’s last three losses has been by single digits.

Ole Miss has been held under 70 points in every contest during the three-game losing streak. The Rebels are 12 of 57 from the 3-point line over the last three games. Five of those 3-pointers have been hit by Matthew Murrell.

Ole Miss is looking for back-to-back wins against LSU for the first time since 2013 and 2014.
