2023 TCU Horned Frogs Future Odds

Chandler Morris Looks to Replicate Former QB Max Duggan's Success

The TCU Horned Frogs are on the map. The Horned Frogs made the National Championship game for the first time in program history.

Yes, TCU lost 65-7, but it was a fantastic journey for TCU in Sonny Dykes first year as head coach. TCU was projected to be in the middle of the Big 12 last season. But they went 9-0 in the Big 12 regular season and found a way into the National Championship game.

TCU fans must keep expectations slightly lower than a College Football Playoff appearance yearly. But winning will always help recruiting. Good recruiting typically helps to build rosters that can give you sustained success.

Some players went to the NFL from that TCU team. But the Horned Frogs were able to improve via the transfer portal after success last season.

Can TCU continues its climb and become one of the best programs in college football?

Let’s take a look at the TCU Horned Frogs future odds for the 2023 season.

No Duggan, No Problem

The Horned Frogs no longer have Max Duggan at quarterback or Quentin Johnston at wide receiver. That will ultimately hurt the team.

With new offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, TCU should be fine. The offense might not average 39 points per game. But with Chandler Morris at quarterback, the Horned Frogs feel comfortable.

Morris is a former Oklahoma transfer who beat out Duggan for the starting job last year. Morris hurt his knee in the opening game against Colorado; the rest is history. Duggan kept the starting job and took the Horned Frogs to the national title game.

Morris has Savion Williams returning. Jared Wiley will also return at Tight End. But then it’s a whole lot of transfers that he’ll need to connect with. JoJo Earle came from Alabama, JP Richardson from Oklahoma State, and Jack Bech from LSU. Those three should be productive for TCU this season.

They also made the addition of former Alabama running back Trey Sanders. Sanders will likely have plenty of room to run, with TCU expected to have another solid offensive line unit.

Will TCU’s Defense Get Exposed?

TCU’s defense was never sensational last year. The offense just did its job at a very high level.

However, TCU has more experience on the defensive side of the ball. They’ve got a loaded linebacker core, including Johnny Hodges and Jamoi Hodge. Both added 150 tackles combined last season. They should be named the “Hodge Twins” or something. TCU also has Damonic Williams at defensive tackle. He’ll be terrific at stuffing the run in the middle.

Meanwhile, the secondary will be without Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson. But Josh Newton, Mark Perry, and Millard Bradford should all be solid contributors in the secondary. They also added Avery Helm from Florida. He’ll likely take over for Hodges-Tomlinson on one side.

National Championship Odds: It’s Not Far-Fetched Anymore!

I would’ve laughed if you told me you put money on TCU to earn a National Championship last year.

While they didn’t win the National Championship or come even close in the title game, they played in it. That’s worth something.

TCU’s defense has the experience, and the offense has the potential to be just as good as last year. It’s no longer bold to give out NCAAF predictions that TCU will earn a college football playoff spot.

Typically, the teams that have a chance at winning the National Championship include Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU, and Clemson.

But TCU broke that thought. TCU is at +10000 to win the National Championship. If they make the College Football Playoff, you can hedge and guarantee a solid chunk of money. There are worse bets than taking the TCU Horned Frogs future odds to win the national title.

Conference Odds: Is TCU Still Underrated?

We will say it. We think TCU is still underrated after last year’s run.

Oddsmakers have TCU as the fifth-best team in college football, behind Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas State, and Texas Tech.

I haven’t seen Texas or Oklahoma in that Big 12 title game recently. Texas and Oklahoma, for example, still have so much to prove in the Big 12.

TCU already proved what they’re capable of. And then, they added a lot of exciting transfer portal talent to help sustain its success.

TCU should at least have odds similar to Kansas State’s +500 to win the Conference. We don’t mind anyone taking the TCU Horned Frogs future odds at +1600 to win the conference.

Regular Season Wins: All TCU Needs Is Eight Wins!

We don’t think TCU will have a drastic decline this season. The Horned Frogs went 9-0 in Big 12 before losing to Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship. They also won 13 games, with the two losses coming against Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship and Georgia in the National Championship.

TCU isn’t on the same level as Georgia. But all of their other NCAAF scores were close.

This year’s college football schedule is still appealing for TCU.

They’ll likely knock off Colorado in Week 1. After that, they’ll take on Nicholls State in the season’s second game. Chalk that one up as a win.

They’ll be on the road against Houston and face SMU at home in their next two games. We’ve got TCU earning back-to-back wins there.

At 4-0, TCU will face West Virginia at home and Iowa State on the road. That’s another two wins for TCU.

They’d be 6-0, with the media asking if TCU can put together another undefeated regular season.

After Iowa State, TCU will take on BYU at home. We’ve got them earning another win there. They’d be 7-0 and need one win against Kansas State, Texas Tech, Texas, Baylor, and Oklahoma.

The second half of the schedule is tremendously challenging. But TCU beat Ohio State last year in the semifinal of the College Football Playoff. The Horned Frogs will be prepared for some of those games. Even if they go 1-4 in those final five games, TCU would earn eight wins.
