2024 Cheat Sheet: Arkansas Razorbacks Stats

Sam Pittman on Hot Seat Entering Fifth Season

A 4-8 record isn’t going to cut it at many schools, especially Arkansas. The football-crazed university doesn’t take too kindly to losing seasons. The 2024 Arkansas Razorbacks stats have to be better in conference games for a return to a bowl, which is possible. Last year’s record has coach Sam Pittman in the line of fire.

He can calm the Arkansas faithful with a winning season, but that won’t be an easy task. The Razorbacks were expected to be down a bit last year, having a win total of just 6.5, but they didn’t come close to that number.

Arkansas has some nice returning players but also has weaknesses entering the new season.

BYU and Mississippi State. A break here or there could have produced a 6-6 football team.

Boise State transfer Taylen Green replaced the departed KJ Jefferson at quarterback. The Razorbacks are getting the short end of the stick there but return nearly all the other skill players.

The offensive line has to be better. The team returned two starters and brought in three from the transfer portal. The offense will be a key factor in the team’s success and if Arkansas becomes one of the NCAAF best bets.

The defense made strides last year, but still allowed too many points and yards. It was a better effort than 2022, although that’s not saying a lot. The defensive line shouldn’t be bad, but the linebackers need the transfers to make a quick impact.

The biggest thing the Razorbacks need this season is a little luck. The team will be fairly close to last year’s squad in terms of talent. If the college football scores and odds go in the Razorbacks’ favor a bit this season, they can finish at .500 or better. Going 1-5 in games decided by seven points or less was a factor in last year’s 4-8 record.

Championship Odds: Not Going to Happen

The Razorbacks have a long way to go before returning to the top tier of college football teams. Arkansas opened +15000 last season and that team was expected to be better than this year’s version.

A more realistic goal for Arkansas this season is six wins and a bowl game. Anything better than that is a bonus.

Conference Odds: Too Much Talent in SEC[/tie_index>

Conference Odds: Too Much Talent in SEC

The Razorbacks simply lack the talent level of the top SEC teams like Georgia, Texas, and Alabama. Even if the 2024 Arkansas Razorbacks stats show improvement on both sides of the ball, the team isn’t going to stay with the best teams in the conference.

Arkansas was +10000 to win the SEC last year and are at even longer odds this season.

Regular Season Wins: The Potential is There[/tie_index>

Regular Season Wins: The Potential Is There

Arkansas has another brutal SEC schedule this season. The Razorbacks are probably looking at two wins, possibly three at the most, which they’ll need for a bowl berth.

The non-conference schedule features three games the team can win. The win total is low enough that the Razorbacks could go over with just two conference victories.

The Razorbacks aren’t going to be one of the popular college football picks in futures bets this season. The strength of the SEC can’t be overstated. Arkansas was ranked No. 33 nationally in recruiting, but No. 15 in the SEC, so the Razorbacks need the transfer portal players to come up big.

The keys to the season will be an improvement in the 2024 Arkansas Razorbacks stats offensively and continued improvement from the defense.

If Green and the Razorbacks can move the ball better and keep the defense off the field more, the team will challenge for six wins. If the offense struggles some without Jefferson, a repeat of last year is likely.

To Make Playoffs: Arkansas Won’t Sniff Playoff Field[/tie_index>

To Make Playoffs: Arkansas Won’t Sniff Playoff Field

The Razorbacks lack the talent to reach the expanded playoffs this year. The passing game isn’t good enough to move the ball consistently and the tougher teams on the schedule will be able to slow down the team’s running game. The defense was better last season, but still struggled to stop the better teams.

Side Bets[/tie_index>

Side Bets

The win total on conference games for Arkansas is 2.5, with the over at +150 and the under at -200. A lot of things will have to go right for Arkansas to win three SEC games, although betting the under at -200 doesn’t sound all that appealing.
