The 2024 Georgia Tech Stats Could See the Offense Thriving Again This Season

Can Georgia Tech Build On A Surprising 2023 Season?

Even while defying the odds by making it into a bowl game during the 2023 season, Georgia Tech struggled to string wins together during the 2023 season, posting a 1-5 record after a win.

  • The Yellow Jackets were 6-0 following a loss.

The Yellow Jackets covered in just one of the four games when listed as the favorite last season.

It was a much different story with a 7-2 mark as the underdog as Georgia Tech was tied for the ACC lead by covering in eight games during the 2023 season so that is something to keep in mind when it comes to the 2024 Georgia Tech stats.

Georgia Tech tied for the ACC lead with nine of its games landing over the NCAAF odds total. Five of the six games following a win went over the total as did all four games as the favorite.

  • Georgia Tech was third in the ACC in total offense and fourth in scoring offense. Georgia Tech is the only team stats from the power conferences to return a player stats who threw for at least 2500 yards as well as 1000-yard rushers and receivers.

However, the Yellow Jackets allowed more yards than any other ACC team and only Virginia allowed more points per game among ACC squads.

Key Offensive Stars All Return For Georgia Tech

The biggest news for Georgia Tech is that quarterback Haynes King returns after he threw for 27 touchdowns and ran for 10 more after transferring from Texas A&M.

Leading rusher Jamal Haynes also returns after a 1000-yard season as does top receiver Eric Singleton

Leading rusher Jamal Haynes also returns after a 1000-yard season as does top receiver Eric Singleton, a member of the 2023 Freshman All-American team.

When analyzing the 2024 Georgia Tech stats, they helped Georgia Tech finish in the top three in total offense in the ACC for the first time since 2014.

Georgia Tech ranked only ahead of Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Stanford, and Clemson in the 247sports.com listing of the top classes of incoming transfers in the ACC.

The Yellow Jackets saw defensive linemen Kyle Kennard (11 tackles for loss, six sacks in 2023) and D’Quan Douse (5.5 sacks over the last two seasons) transfer to South Carolina and Michigan State and that could impact the 2024 Georgia Tech stats.

Cornerback Kenan Johnson is now at Utah.

Most of the top-rated incoming transfers came on defense led by USC edge rusher Romello Height, Rhode Island Syeed Gibbs, Georgia linebacker EJ Lightsey, Penn State defensive lineman Jordan van den Berg, and Tennessee cornerback Warren Burrell.

Keep an eye on the preseason updates before making NCAAF picks today for the Yellow Jackets.

  • Championship Odds: Let’s Not Get Carried Away

Georgia Tech deserves credit for turning things around. However, the Yellow Jackets were 0-4 against ranked teams.

  • The Yellow Jackets had a chance to win the Louisville and Georgia games but the 48-23 loss at Ole Miss and 42-21 loss to Clemson showed that there is plenty of work yet to be done.

Georgia Tech had the No. 7 rated class of incoming freshmen in ACC. That is the highest ranking for the Yellow Jackets since 2020 so perhaps the Yellow Jackets can build on last year’s winning season.

  • Conference Odds: Will the Sequel Top the Original?

Georgia Tech finished tied for fourth in the ACC a season ago, finishing ahead of Clemson and Miami in the final NCAAF standings. Brett Key and his staff worked some magic in 2023.

It might be hard to have another top-four finish.

  • The Yellow Jackets get right to work with a season-opening game in Dublin against ACC favorite Florida State. The Seminoles are 13.5-point favorites in the game.

Georgia Tech doesn’t have Clemson on the schedule this year. However, the first true road game is at Syracuse and the next road NCAAF matchup comes against Louisville and neither of those will be easy tests.

When looking at recent college football scores, Georgia Tech defied the odds by beating North Carolina and Miami last season as double-digit underdogs.

  • Regular Season Wins: Going Over 5.5 Wins Is Possible Again

Georgia Tech’s non-conference schedule is headlined once again with a regular-season finale against national title front-runner Georgia. However, the Yellow Jackets will be favored to beat Georgia State and VMI.

If the Yellow Jackets win at Syracuse, they could be off to a 3-1 start

If the Yellow Jackets win at Syracuse, they could be off to a 3-1 start. Can they find three more wins the rest of the way?

Georgia Tech might be favored in only one more game for the remainder of the season and that would be against visiting Duke on Oct. 5. The Yellow Jackets will have an additional week to prepare for that game.

Georgia Tech exceeded expectations in 2023. If the defense is just mediocre, that could happen again in 2024 despite a challenging NCAAF schedule.

  • To Make Playoffs: Another Bowl Bid A More Realistic Goal

Georgia Tech played in a bowl game for the first time since the 2018 season and won a bowl game for the first time since 2016.

The Yellow Jackets haven’t played in back-to-back bowl games in a decade and that should be the goal in 2024.

The season opener against Florida State should speak volumes about whether the Yellow Jackets are ready to prove that the 2023 season was no fluke.

Side Bets

  • If Haynes King was the quarterback at Clemson or Florida State, he would probably not have +15000 odds of winning the Heisman Trophy. Those are still shorter odds than the other top returning offensive players.

This will be the fourth time in the last six years that Georgia Tech opens the season against a ranked opponent.

The 39-34 loss to Louisville in the 2023 opener sent the message that the Yellow Jackets were better than advertised so take a look at Georgia Tech to cover as double-digit underdogs against Florida State on Aug. 24 and the 54.5-point total should attract plenty of early money as well.
