2024 NCAAF Cheat Sheet: Indiana Hoosiers Stats & Odds

2024 Indiana Hoosiers Stats: Growing Pains In Year One with HC Cignetti

The Indiana Hoosiers finished 3-9 overall and 1-8 in the Big Ten last season. That record forced Indiana’s hand.

Less than 24 hours after a loss to Purdue in the season’s final game, Indiana fired Tom Allen after seven seasons. Allen went 9-27 in those seven seasons but led the team to two bowl appearances in 2019 and 2020.

Ultimately, Allen lost a lot of talent while at Indiana and didn’t recoup that talent through the transfer portal. At one time, Indiana had momentum, but eventually, that momentum was lost.

Once Indiana bought Tom Allen out for $15.5 million, they persuaded former James Madison head coach Curt Cignetti to take over. Cignetti went 52-9 and finished 19-4 in the first two FBS seasons at James Madison.

Heading into this season, almost the entire roster is filled with transfers. Those transfers likely saw that Cignetti has never had a losing record in 13 seasons as a head coach.

But this will easily be Cignetti’s most challenging season to date. Not only is he trying to bring Indiana back to relevance, but he’s also trying to do it at one of the best conferences in the nation, the Big Ten.

Check out the 2024 Indiana Hoosiers stats and odds for this year’s season below.

What Are The Expectations In Indiana?

Over the last few seasons, Indiana had seven quarterbacks that started at least one game. They also went through three offensive coordinators in three seasons.

It’s hard to sustain success when this is the reality.

Cignetti brought most of his staff from James Madison to Indiana. He also convinced big Indiana players like Donaven McCulley and Carter Smith to stay with the Hoosiers and not go into the portal. That already shows signs of a culture building.

That said, he brought in veteran quarterback Kurtis Rourke, who had previously been the MAC Offensive Player of the Year. Rourke was one of eight skill players added to the portal.

This was ultimately something many Indiana boosters feared Tom Allen couldn’t do. It’s already a major step in the right direction.

Below, let’s discuss the projected 2024 Indiana Hoosiers stats and odds for this upcoming season.

Championship Odds: Not Yet!

It takes time to build a program. Indiana brought in several transfers who will need to be familiarized with one another.

Basically, a bowl game would be a massive win for first-year head coach Cignetti. Don’t even look at the CFP championship odds.

Conference Odds: It’s The Big Ten!

The Indiana Hoosiers have an easy start to the schedule. They’ll be 2-0 before playing a Big Ten Game. However, a matchup on the road against UCLA won’t be easy. They’ll also have Michigan and Ohio State in back-to-back games.

We’ve got a new coach and new players, and we’re playing an extremely difficult schedule. In the first season, expect Indiana to lose tighter games down the stretch. These NCAAF lines for Indiana aren’t worth it.

Regular Season Wins: Where Are The Six Wins?

Indiana’s projected total is 5.5. However, it’s hard to point out more than five wins.

The Hoosiers will likely begin the season with back-to-back wins against FIU and Western Illinois. After those wins, they’ll head on the road to face UCLA. The travel to the West Coast probably won’t help. This is a winnable game on paper, but being on the road hurts.

At 2-1, they’d earn a win over Charlotte, but they’d likely lose to Maryland in the following game. At this point, they’d be 3-2 with a gauntlet of Big Ten teams ahead.

Indiana takes on Northwestern on the road, but given how the Wildcats finished last season, Indiana will also lose this game.

The Hoosiers would be 3-3 with Nebraska, Washington, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, and Purdue. Maybe Indiana can overcome Purdue in the rivalry game, but all the other games look like losses.

Our NCAA football predictions believe Indiana will finish with three wins yet again. Therefore, consider the Under for Indiana’s projected total.

To Make Playoffs: No Chance For Indiana

While the playoffs are expanded, Indiana still won’t have a chance.

The Hoosiers would still likely need ten wins to make the playoffs. Ultimately, they’d have to beat every team except Ohio State and Michigan to have a chance at the College Football Playoff.

That would mean wins over Nebraska, Maryland, Washington, Michigan State, and UCLA.

The Hoosiers will likely lose most of those games in the first place. The 2024 Indiana Hoosiers stats won’t be pretty in the Big Ten.

Side Bets

There aren’t many intriguing bets when it comes to Indiana. We’ve seen props where you can bet Indiana at +1480 to win ten or more regular-season games.

But again, if Indiana won ten or more games, they’d be considered for the College Football Playoff, with odds at +9500.

There’s no reason to bet Indiana to win 10+ games. You’re much better off going the College Football Playoff route.

That said, we don’t believe Indiana will even come close to six games, so you probably shouldn’t waste your time wagering on Indiana when looking at the projected 2024 Indiana Hoosiers stats.
