2024 NCAAF Cheat Sheet: Miami Hurricanes Stats & Odds

Hurricanes Hope Transfer Portal Pays Dividends

The Miami Hurricanes had plenty of talent last season and high expectations. What they didn’t have was a very strong season, going 7-5 in the regular season and losing to Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl. The Hurricanes had a season win total of 7.5, so the team came up a little short of expectations.

The pressure is on coach Mario Cristobal this season. Being a Miami alum will only get you so far. Eventually, you’re going to have to get the job done on the field, but the ‘Canes have the players to make the 2024 Miami Hurricanes stats look pretty good.

West Coast Transfers to Have Key Roles

The 2024 Miami Hurricanes stats should be better than what we saw in 2023. Quarterback Cameron Ward should have something to do with that, coming over from Washington State. In his four years of college football between WSU and Incarnate Word, Ward has thrown for 13,874 yards and 119 touchdowns.

Last year he threw for 3,735 yards and 25 touchdowns. The Hurricanes will have him for just one year, but if he puts Miami on the right side of the NCAA football scores, the team will be happy.

The Hurricanes also convinced Damien Martinez to join the team from the Pac 12 Conference. Playing for Oregon State last year, Martinez rushed for 1,185 yards and nine touchdowns. He’ll help take some of the pressure off Ward and the two should work in tandem pretty well. The Hurricanes have a solid offensive line and good receivers.

The defense lost a couple of key players in the secondary, but brought in some transfers to try and fill the void. The defensive line is tough and will need to be good with the secondary the biggest question mark on the stop unit entering the season.

Hurricanes logoChampionship Odds: ‘Canes Have Potential, But Asking Too Much

Miami should be a better football team than last season, both in the standings and for those who back them in their NCAA football betting.

Asking the team to win the NCAA championship is probably too tall of an order. It’s not impossible, but it’s not likely.

Hurricanes logoConference Odds: Miami in Midst of Three-Team Race

Miami has a favorable schedule this season, avoiding Clemson and N.C. State and getting Florida State at home, so an ACC title isn’t out of the question.

The Hurricanes will have to take care of business in their other ACC games, but the potential is there for a conference title. The game against Florida State could very well decide the ACC title.

Hurricanes logoRegular Season Wins: ‘Canes Need Double-Digit Victories

Seeing the Miami Hurricanes win 10 games is going to be a definite possibility. There are only a couple of games that figure to go either way. Those are the home game with the Seminoles and games at Florida and Louisville. The Hurricanes should be able to win the others.

If Ward can turn the 2024 Miami Hurricanes stats around with his passing, you have to like Miami to get 10 victories. Miami could be a bit of a surprise team this season and one worth looking at for your NCAAF picks and parlays.

Hurricanes logoTo Make Playoffs: Not Out of the Question

The Hurricanes have a shot to sneak into the college football playoff field. Miami’s schedule will mean the ‘Canes have to win 11 games during the regular season, although that’s not out of the question. The Hurricanes will have to win a couple of the tough games, but not all three to make it in.

Hurricanes logoSide Bets

Ward is +2200 to win the Heisman Trophy and he does have a chance. A lot of that will be determined by how well the Hurricanes fare as a team. Miami does have the pieces in place for its best season in a number of years. If the Hurricanes can return to the “golden days” and Ward has a big hand in that, he’ll get Heisman consideration.

A few of the other quarterbacks appear to have slightly better situations, but Ward is a big-time talent and playing for a big-name program.
