Baylor Bears 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins and Player Props
Bears Hope Transfers Can Have Immediate Impact

The Baylor Bears have been very good or very bad over the past few seasons. Last year, it was Baylor’s turn to be bad, as the 2021 Big 12 Conference champions stumbled to a 6-7 record. Baylor closed the season with four straight losses. But part of that was due to the opponents faced. The 2023 Baylor Bears stats have to be better in the passing game for the team to compete for the conference title.

Bears Believe New Players Can Get Them Back to Title Game
The Bears weren’t bad on offense last season, but they need to be better in the offense-happy Big 12. One man Baylor has high hopes for is NFL-caliber lineman Clark Barrington, who arrives from BYU with his brother Campbell. Despite losing four linemen, the Bears should be as good if not better upfront.
That’s good news for quarterback Blake Shapen, who was up and down last season. Shapen threw for 2,790 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The Bears need more from the passing game. Arkansas transfer Ketron Jackson Jr. adds to a solid group of wideouts.
Baylor is set at running back, with Richard Reese, who rushed for 972 yards and 14 touchdowns as a freshman. He’ll be joined by Oklahoma transfer Dominic Richardson, who had 543 yards and eight touchdowns. If the line can open holes, the Bears have running backs who can take advantage of that.
The 2023 Baylor Bears stats on defense need to be a little better. Baylor took a bit of a step backward last season, allowing 26.8 points per game. The Bears need to get more pressure on the quarterback, as the secondary will have some new faces.
Up front, Gabe Hall and TJ Franklin will be joined by 340-pound Jerrell Boykins, who arrives from Louisiana Tech. The linebackers aren’t bad and nabbed a good one in Liberty transfer Mike Smith.
It’s the secondary that poses the most questions. Safety Devin Lemear is the lone returning starter. Cornerback Isaiah Dunson arrived from Miami and will add some experience. But the Bears need the secondary to grow in a hurry.
National Championship Odds: Too Much to Ask From Bears
The Bears were +8000 last season and finished with a losing record. That doesn’t bode well for a team that is +20000 this season.
Conference Odds: Baylor Has Outside Chance
The Bears were +700 last season and didn’t come close with a 4-5 Big 12 record. But the NCAAF schedules were a little more kind to Baylor this year. The Bears have eight home games this season. Baylor has Texas and Texas Tech at home. That leaves road games at Kansas State and TCU as the toughest games on the slate. The Bears are likely to finish higher in the NCAAF standings this year. But finishing first or second in the conference to earn a spot in the title game will be tough.
Regular Season Wins: Drop in Number Prompts Over Play
The move in Baylor’s season win total from 7.5 to 7 is a big one. Those betting over 7.0 will push their wagers should the Bears finish 7-5. But those betting over 7.5 need an 8-4 record to avoid losing their wagers. With the number dropping to 7.0, there’s a definite value on the over.
The college football predictions should have Baylor favored in at least six of its eight home games. Texas is likely to be a road favorite in Waco. The game with Texas Tech could be close to even. Baylor has a favorable schedule for the first nine games, which feature seven contests at home, including the likes of Texas State and Long Island. The Bears host Utah in Week 2, so that will give a better picture of where the Bears are than the opener with Texas State.
The Bears should be a pretty good football team. That should be reflected in the 2023 Baylor Bears stats. Just how far Baylor goes will be determined by getting the new faces of the team up to speed as soon as possible.
