College Football: Boise State vs Oregon State Odds & Preview

Broncos Searching for Past Glory, Beavers a Rising Force in Pac-12

Boise State vs Oregon State Odds: The Beavers from the Pac-12 conference open up their 2022 season at home against the Broncos. Very few NCAA spreads this weekend are as small as we see here with OSU -2.5 after opening -4.

Before we dive deeper into our Boise State vs Oregon State odds preview let’s look at some of the relevant trends heading into this Mountain West and Pac-12 conference match-up. These two hadn’t met since 2017 when they were Las Vegas Bowl opponents, a game won by Boise 38-28.

The Broncos have covered five of their last six games in September but just 3-7 ATS against teams from the Pac-12. The Beavers are 6-2 ATS against Mountain West Conference competition.

Game Information

Broncos Look to Rebound After a Down Year

Boise finished the 2022 College Football season with a 7-5 mark against the spread, good enough to turn a small profit for bettors.

If you throw out the 2020 COVID season, Idaho’s favorite team is 30-21 ATS (+651 units) including two bowl appearances since the 2017-18 season.

The number shows Andy Avalos’s team as a short dog, but that’s exactly where this team is comfortable after covering eight of their last nine games as a dog.

You can bet Boise will be fired up after leaving the 2021 season with just seven wins, their fewest since 1998. The Broncos will have an extra chip on their shoulder after turning away an appearance in the Arizona Bowl against Central Michigan after being forced to pull out because of COVID protocol. Boise has covered five of their last six road games.

Beavers Hope to Build on Success at Reser

Oregon State wasn’t great on the road last season, losing five of six, but games at home were a different story. Are they a predictor of all things NCAA Pacific 12 Conference Football? Absolutely not, but a win out of the gate is vital.

Continuing our Boise State vs Oregon State odds preview: Jonathan Smith’s team won all six in Corvallis to qualify for the LA Bowl against Utah State. Since 2019, the Beavers are 19-12 overall (+583 units), but with their unblemished record on home turf, they stopped a streak of four straight seasons where they failed to make money for bettors at home (8-15 ATS, -793 units).

Smith has two stars on both sides of the ball starting with senior quarterback player Hank Bachmeier and finishing with safety JL Skinner, who will be playing on Sundays a year from now. The first half of the game will be important for Boise because the Beaver faithful are starting to feel like they can make a difference again.

Boise has not played a game in nine months so it won’t be shocking if they don’t come out as crisp as bettors would like. After that kind of layoff, I’m sure Avalos and defensive coordinator Spencer Danielson will alert his team to the fact that the Beavers will likely try to hit them with a big play early.

Bettors All Over Boise State, Spread Bets and Under

Taking a deeper dive into the Boise State and Oregon State odds, we see that the betting public is all about the Broncos and the current NCAAF spreads. Both moneyline and spread tickets are on Boise but the professional money continues to have the greater impact, pushing the number down.

We’re going to side with the pros in this one and take the Pac-12 upstarts. Experience and home-field advantage will be the deciding factor. The Broncos’ defense doesn’t have enough returning experience for our liking, and to ask them to play well after a long layoff, and to do it in what will be a hostile environment is too much to ask.
