Are Caleb Williams’s Demands Too Unreasonable Even for the No. 1 Pick?
The most recent college football rumors suggest Trojans’ quarterback Caleb Williams may sit out the 2024 NFL Draft and return to USC to continue his prolific collegiate football career. Below we delve further into Williams’ reasons why he is contemplating such a choice and whether the money he is making off his NIL deals is worth postponing his career in the NFL.
A Star is Born & Current
Caleb Williams stats and talented are ,some say, generational quarterback, ala Peyton Manning, and will likely be picked as the No. 1 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. A quick glance at Caleb Williams’ stats tells us all we need to know about the latest college wunderkind.
At the end of last NCAAF season, Williams posted sensational numbers: 42 touchdown passes, 10 rushing touchdowns, and 4500 yards passing with only five interceptions. Not surprisingly, he won the Heisman Trophy as the best college football player at the D-1 FBS level and many believed he would leave the college game and embrace fame and fortune at the next level.
However, Williams returned for his junior season, eschewing the NFL, and picked up where he left off last year. Through his first seven games of the 2023-2024 season, Williams has once again put up gaudy numbers equating to 23 touchdown passes, 6 rushing touchdowns, and 2,021 yards passing with 4 picks.
Show Me the Money
Now that we have Williams’ bona fides, we can begin to scratch the surface as to why this young man is holding all the cards. Not long ago, the star collegiate players had no money, to wit, no leverage but things have certainly changed.
For several years a cacophony of legal experts and those with vast social media platforms have demanded that the kids who make the schools millions upon millions of dollars through television rights get their fair share.
Thus, Name Image and Likeness (NIL) became a legal option for these athletes to make money once the NCAA bowed to mounting pressure in 2021. Now, athletic rockstars like Caleb Willians can sell his NIL to companies yearning to associate their brands with young, hip, up-and-comers.
Pete Nakos, On3.com’s College Sports Business Reporter, just revised his NIL Valuations and ranked Williams fifth overall, appraising his valuation of Williams’ NIL deals at $2.6 million. Naturally, that’s a long way away from the guaranteed four-year deal worth nearly $38 million last year’s No. 1 overall pick, Bryce Young, signed with Carolina.
Highest NIL Valuation in College Football
1. Shedeur Sanders – $4.8M
2. Arch Manning -$2.8M
3. Caleb Williams – $2.7M
4. Travis Hunter – $2.3M
5. JJ McCarthy – $1.4MArch Manning hasn’t even played a snap this season and has the 2nd highest NIL valuation 🤯

However, $2.6 million a year is enough to allow a college football player to be choosy as to where he wants to play and for how much. In years past, Williams would have to be content with the free ride he is already receiving at USC and an endless buffet at the dining hall.
And it is for this reason that Williams has reportedly stated where he wants to play next season with those destinations being: the Raiders, Cowboys, Vikings, Giants, or 49ers. Perhaps someone should alert Jimmy Garoppolo, Dak Prescott, Kirk Cousins, Daniel Jones, and Brock Purdy that they should consider vacating their respective premises.
BREAKING: Caleb Williams says he can make more money returning to USC next season then as a rookie in the NFL and says he can pick what team he wants to go to because of that.😳

Otherwise, Caleb Williams stats could help him decide to return for his senior season next year in pursuit of a national championship, a course of action that would have previously been untenable but is now suddenly viable, albeit risky if he is injured.
People Are Talking
It didn’t take long for people to weigh in on this developing college football news and former NFL quarterback, Cam Newton decided to speak his mind on the subject.
“My dear Heisman fellow, Caleb Williams. You don’t want to dictate the ramifications too early because this is still the NFL. You want to walk light as possible. They may see this as an antic to say, ‘Who the h**l does he think he can do or be by selecting his own teams?'”
And Newton wasn’t done as he stated, “For me, I feel like bro, do you? Set the tone early. But while you setting that tone, Mr. Caleb, I must admonish you to know this. You gotta perform. If you don’t perform, this ain’t USC.
“Don’t nobody care that you won a Heisman… so hate him for taking a pay cut and going to the NFL? H**l nah, motherf****r, make that money!”
Words of wisdom from a man whom fans used to call Superman…now they just call him unemployed.

The Defending Heisman Trophy Winner threw for 403 yards and six touchdowns vs. Buffaloes
It’s been 48 years since we had back-to-back Heisman Trophy winners (Archie Griffen, Ohio State in 1974 and 1975). It appears USC’s Sophomore quarterback, Caleb Williams, is on his way after scorching the Colorado Buffaloes secondary for over 400 yards passing in the Trojans’ 48-41 victory.
Williams is the overwhelming favorite at +160 to take home College Football’s top honor along with Micheal Penix Jr., from Washington, a distant second at +400. Next up for USC (-22) is a Saturday home date with Arizona.
We further examine Caleb Williams’ stats and his team’s outlook from a betting perspective.
With Williams Behind Center, Trojans Among The Top Offenses
You don’t have to go far into the NCAA Football stats page to realize that Williams is a special player. The defending Pac-12 Offensive Player Of The Year has already thrown for 1603 yards in five games. That is almost as many as he threw in 11 games for the Oklahoma Sooners (1912 yards passing) in 2021 before transferring to Southern California in 2022.
His 321 yards passing per game average through five starts is just short of what the Washington DC native accomplished last season by a measly 43 yards after throwing for 4537 yards in 2022. He is on pace to have back-to-back 4,000-yard seasons while throwing just 10 interceptions in 30 college starts against 84 touchdowns.
There is a reason why Chicago Bears fans want their team to tank, but Williams, a Junior, may just go back to college if he doesn’t like his potential employer in the NFL.
The new NIL rules force kids to think about staying in school longer instead of chasing the dreams of a multi-million dollar contract. Let’s continue our look at Caleb William’s stats by studying his effect on the betting bankroll.
USC Moves Down In Polls
NCAA Football games are a funny thing when it comes to the polls. Notre Dame loses by an inch to a top-five team, and surely they must be moved out of the Top 10 even though the results on the field show they can play with the best in the land.
The USC Trojans lost a 7-point affair in Boulder to the Colorado Buffaloes (48-41), and all of a sudden, they must be moved down in the College Football polls to #9 (AP Poll). The Georgia Bulldogs beat unranked Auburn on the road by a touchdown (27-20), and they don’t budge off their perch despite being tied with the Tigers until the 2:52 mark of the fourth quarter.
Oregon State beats a Utah team, 21-7 at home, and moves up four spots to #15. Thank goodness the polls no longer have the impact they once did, but isn’t it still about who the writers think are the best teams in the country? USC couldn’t care less as they’re still among the favorites (+1600, 7th choice) according to the latest NCAA Football Championship odds.
We will say this, despite Caleb Williams’ stats, USC has not covered three of their first five games, including two straight as massive favorites. If USC fails to turn a profit for bettors in 2023, it would mark the third time in four seasons that they’ve failed to produce a winning season for the public.
To dig deep into the history books, the Trojans are 23-24-1 ATS since 2019 (2.61 units) and 102-116 ATS (-19.31 units) since 2005. No matter how good Williams is, it’s the defense that has constantly let Trojan bettors down.
