Mountain West Season Odds, Boise State Favored to Finish Perfect

Final Weekend of Mountain West Season Features Four Double-Digit Point Spreads

Air Force-San Diego State Matchup Could be the Most Competitive in Week 13

There’s not much at stake except playing for pride for the Mountain West teams this week. That is evident when looking at the Mountain West season odds as four of the six games have double-digit spreads.

Boise State and Fresno State have already clinched spots in the Mountain West title game while none of the five teams with losing records can become bowl eligible this weekend. Since the two teams winless in conference play don’t meet, perhaps the halftime entertainment during the Mountain West title game could be a scrimmage between Nevada and New Mexico.

The schedule features three games on Friday as the team get a head start on the final weekend of the regular season. Four of the six games have double-digit lines so there could be some lopsided affairs this weekend.

Game of the Week

Wyoming Cowboys at Fresno State Bulldogs

Date, time (TV):

Fresno State has already secured a spot in the conference title game thanks to a late October win over San Diego State.

Still, a win on Saturday would continue a remarkable turnaround after dropping the first four games against Football Bowl Subdivision teams this season. The Mountain West season odds are showing Fresno State as the heavy favorite.

Since a 20-point loss to Boise State, the Bulldogs have won six games in a row and will represent the West Division in the Mountain West title game.

Fresno State (7-4, 6-1 in the Mountain West) leads the conference in total offense and up next is a matchup with a 7-4 Wyoming team that ranks in the middle of the pack in most defensive categories in the Mountain West.

Wyoming (7-4, 5-2) is second in the conference with 31 sacks with DeVonne Harris leading the way with 7.5. Fresno State’s David Perales is the conference leader with 10.5 sacks.

When looking at the college football injuries, keep an eye on Wyoming quarterback Andrew Peasley as he is questionable for the game.

Wyoming has managed a total of 10 points in the last three meetings with Fresno State.

Fresno State is 4-1 at home, but just 2-3 against the NCAAF spreads.

Other Games to Watch

Utah State Aggies at Boise State Broncos

Date, time (TV):

There will be no return to the conference title game for reigning Mountain West champion Utah State. The Aggies could upset the Mountain Division champions. It would be quite an accomplishment when looking at the Mountain West season odds.

The Aggies (6-5, 5-2) have won three games in a row to become bowl eligible after a tough start to the season.

After falling 89 yards short of 1,000 rushing yards in his first season at Utah following his transfer from Oregon State, Calvin Tyler needs just 22 yards to reach the milestone on Friday. He ran for 126 yards in the 2021 game against the Broncos.

Boise State’s George Holani is just 23 yards shy of 1,000. Boise State (8-3, 7-0) is allowing nearly 100 fewer yards per game than a season ago and that has been a key for run to the division title.

Boise State has won nine of the last 10 meetings in the series.

The teams are a combined 9-12-1 against the spread this season.

New Mexico Lobo at Colorado State Rams

Date, time (TV):

The best thing about this game is it will bring an end to frustrating seasons for both 2-9 teams.

The teams are 11th and 12th out of 12 Mountain West teams in total offense.

Only five teams have rushed for fewer yards than Colorado State (2-9, 2-5) this season. New Mexico (2-9, 0-7) has the second-fewest passing yards in the conference.

The game features four of the top seven tacklers in the conference. New Mexico’s Cody Moon has 97 tackles and Jerrick Reed had 88 while Colorado State’s Jack Howell and Dequan Jackson have 102 and 89 stops.

Colorado State has won 10 games in a row against New Mexico, however, two of the last four meetings have finished as one-score affairs.

Just one Colorado State game has gone over the total this season.

Hawaii Rainbows at San Jose State Spartans

Date, time (TV):

With three losses by seven points or less, this season could have turned out much differently for San Jose State (6-4, 4-3).

The Spartans found a way to recover from the death of teammate Camdan Wright and win the next two games after the running back was hit by a bus while riding a scooter. They have dropped the last two games and allowed 78 points in those two games.

Chevan Cordeiro has a conference-best 2,677 passing yards for San Jose State.

It has been a tough first year at Hawaii for head coach Timmy Chang, a former star quarterback for the Rainbows. Hawaii (3-9, 2-5) has allowed the most yards of any Mountain West team.

It might be hard to find a more competitive series in the country. Not only have the teams split the last 10 meetings, but Hawaii averaged 28.4 points and San Jose State 28.3 in those meetings.

Hawaii is 0-5 on the road while San Jose State is 5-0 at home.

Nevada Wolfpack at UNLV Rebels

Date, time (TV):

This is another game that ends the season for the two teams.

Nevada (2-9, 0-7) has lost nine games in a row after a 2-0 start with the Wolfpack allowing more than 40 points four times during the streak.

UNLV (4-7, 2-5) has lost its last three games by four, seven and six points ending the hopes of earning a bowl bid.
A bright spot for UNLV is running back Aidan Robbins who has rushed for more than 100 yards in two of the last three games.

For Nevada, Dom Peterson has six tackles for loss in the last five games.

Three of the last four games in the series have finished under the total and it could happen again with a total of 51 for this matchup.

Air Force Falcons at San Diego State Aztecs

Date, time (TV):

With three conference losses by a total of 15 points, Air Force could easily be preparing for a conference title game. A four-point loss to Fresno State cost the Aztecs a division title. This is the only game this week projected to be a one-score game according to the Mountain West conference odds.

Air Force (8-3, 4-3) leads the country with 3,700 rushing yards and the Falcons will face a 7-4 San Diego State team that ranks 24th nationally in rushing defense. One of the teams ahead of them in that category is Air Force so don’t look for much in the way of big running plays in this one.

Each of the last four games in the series were decided by six points or less. Twelve of the 22 games played by the teams this season went under the total. The total is at 43.5 for this matchup.
