NC State 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins and Player Props

Wolfpack Defense Will be Strength of Team

The North Carolina State Wolfpack enjoyed a solid season in 2022, going 8-4 during the year. But NC State lost 16-12 to Maryland in Duke’s Mayo Bowl to end the season on a down note. Still, it was the fifth time in six seasons the Wolfpack won at least eight games. How many games the team wins this year will be determined by the 2023 NC State stats on the offensive side of the ball. The defense will be solid. The offense is a question mark.

Wolfpack Offense to Have Virginia Feel

Offensive coordinator Robert Anae arrives from the Virginia Cavaliers and he brought along his quarterback, Brennan Armstrong. Former starting QB Devin Leary transferred to Kentucky, but Armstrong has plenty of talent. The question is, are the Wolfpack getting the 2021 Armstrong, who threw for 4,449 yards and 31 touchdowns, or the 2022 Armstrong, who threw for 2,210 yards, seven TDs, and 12 interceptions? There’s quite a difference in those two years.

Leading rusher Jordan Houston returns, but the Wolfpack gives carries to a number of different backs; the 2023 NC State stats have to be better in the rushing department. As a team, the Wolfpack had just eight rushing touchdowns and five of those came from quarterbacks.

Three starters return on the offensive line and the team welcomes Oregon transfer Dawson Jaramillo. The Wolfpack also lost three of their four top receivers but should be in decent shape with a few underclassmen pushed by transfers.

The Wolfpack return six starters from a defense that allowed 19.4 points and 326.9 yards per game. Payton Wilson will lead the linebackers and he’s a good one. He’ll be joined by Devon Betty and Jaylon Scott at linebacker, which will be one of the team’s strengths.

CJ Clark will play nose guard and Savion Jackson and Davin Vann should be the ends in the team’s 3-3-5 defense. The secondary returns several starters, including the solid cornerback duo of Aydan White and Shyheim Battle.

National Championship Odds: Not This Year for NC State

The Wolfpack were +15000 last season to win the title. This year NC State is +25000. The Wolfpack is a good football team. But that’s about the best you can say about them. A national title is out of the question.

Conference Odds: Stranger Things Have Happened

NC State is the fifth betting choice this year at +1500 to win the ACC. That’s nearly double last year’s +800 to win the conference. It’s unlikely, but it’s not entirely impossible either. Florida State and Clemson are the two favorites. The college football schedule favors NC State this year. The Wolfpack doesn’t play FSU this season and gets Clemson, Louisville, North Carolina, and Miami all at home. Those are the toughest conference foes NC State will face this season. The Wolfpack should be home underdogs on the college football point spreads against Clemson and possibly Louisville or North Carolina depending on what transpires during the year.

Regular Season Wins: NC State Should Go Over

North Carolina State only needs to be on the right side of the NCAAF scores seven times to cash the over 6.5 wins. It should get there. The Wolfpack play all of their toughest games at home, including an early non-conference game with Notre Dame. The road schedule has a few games NC State should win easily, such as UConn, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. But the home slate also has the likes of VMI in addition to the tough games.

If Armstrong and Anae can recapture their 2021 magic, the Wolfpack can be a dangerous team. But if Armstrong plays like he did last season, NC State will be hard-pressed to get seven wins but can do it. The 2023 NC State stats don’t have to be great to be better than last year’s offensive numbers. But if the stats are good, NC State fans should be in for an enjoyable season.
