Cougars Coming off a Big win
The Cougars of BYU come off one of their early-season tests; a 26-20 overtime win against their future conference foe in the Baylor Bears. Both teams played a rather smash-mouth style of football, but BYU was able to hold up in the trenches, especially it’s front seven. It was a great feeling of revenge, being able to beat the Bears on their home turf in Provo, one of the toughest places to play in all of college football. The year prior, they allowed Baylor to run all over them to the tune of 303 yards to BYU’s 67. This time, the Cougars gave up just 152 yards on the ground and 2.9 yards per carrying.
Perhaps even more impressive was the fact that BYU was able to upset the then 9th-ranked Baylor without two of its top wide receivers in Puka Nacua and Gunner Romney. It proved to be the next man up in Provo, as freshman Chase Roberts stepped into the No. 1 wide receiver role with eight catches for 122 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a 22-yard touchdown pass. The NCAAF schedule is always tough and the Cougars seem to rise to the occasion more often than not.
What to Make of Oregon
There weren’t many fan bases that had a tougher Week 1 of the college football season than Oregon. While Ducks fans may not have thought they’d beat the defending champion Georgia Bulldogs, they probably didn’t expect a 49-3 shellacking either. Because of the lopsided result, the Ducks fell out of the Top 25 despite being ranked 11th prior to the game.
The Ducks find themselves back in the AP Top 25, though just barely, as the 25th-ranked team. A win vs the Cougars, who just knocked off a top-10 team, would do wonders for their poll position, as well as the public perception of the team.
Oregon was able to get some confidence back in a 70-14 win over Eastern Washington. Quarterback Bo Nix was everything he wasn’t the week before. He finished with as many touchdowns passes as incompletions (5).

Continuing our Brigham Young vs Oregon betting odds preview: Unlike in their win against Baylor, the Cougars of BYU will have to go on the road to Eugene for this one. Oregon is considered one of the toughest places to play in the Pac-12. It remains to be seen whether either of BYU’s receivers that were forced to miss the Baylor game will be able to suit up. This should be closely monitored over the course of the week.
BYU’s Jarren Hall proved against Baylor it’s not his targets that make him and should have a good game whether those two receivers are ready to go or not. While he’s not necessarily a running quarterback, he did make some big plays with his feet down the stretch to extend drives.
As for Oregon, which team shows up? The one that got pummeled by a team that was bigger and stronger than them, or the team that crushed an FCS team at home?
Brigham Young vs Oregon Odds Analysis
When the line for this game first opened back in May, Oregon point spreads were favored by 6.5. Even as of the afternoon of Sept. 11, the number was 5.5. After the impressive win over Baylor, the number has moved down to 3.5.
BYU enjoyed success against the Pac-12 in 2021 with a perfect 5-0 record. The most impressive of which was a win in its rivalry game against Utah. Utah went on to win the rest of its games that season and play in the Rose Bowl.
The point is, BYU doesn’t feel like the little brother or the underdog against Pac-12 teams. Don’t be shocked if the Cougars come out of Eugene with a victory.
