Texas Tech Red Raiders Future Odds: Road Wins Crucial
Texas Tech a Solid Darkhorse in Big 12 Conference

Texas Tech finished the 2022 NCAAF season on a high note and looks to carry that momentum into 2023. Bettors believe that’s going to be the case, as well. The Texas Tech Red Raiders future odds are quite a bit lower entering this season than they were a year ago. With 14 starters back and a few transfers, the Red Raiders are loaded with talent. But so are a lot of other teams in the Big 12 Conference.

Texas Tech Needs to Stay Healthy
The Red Raiders must stay healthy for change, especially quarterback Tyler Slough. The former Oregon Duck has looked solid when he plays. It’s getting him on the field that has been the biggest problem. Texas Tech will need him a little more this season. Last year’s leading passer Donovan Smith has moved to Houston. Slough is a solid two-way threat.
The running backs will be a strong suit. Leading rusher Tahj Brooks is back after running for 691 yards and seven scores. Cam’Ron Valdez will get more carries this season after rushing for 169 yards last season.
The top five wide receivers from last year are back, making a solid comeback in the football rankings. All five had more than 30 receptions and combined for 15 TD receptions. Austin Peay transfer Drae McCray had 75 receptions for 1,021 yards and nine touchdowns to add to the team’s depth. The top two tight ends are back, so there’s no shortage of players who can catch the football.
The offensive line wasn’t a strong suit for the team last year. WKU C Rusty Staats transferred to the Red Raiders and will help. The line battled some injury problems a year ago.
Defensively, the Red Raiders return six starters. The line will be strong with seniors Jaylon Hutchings and Tony Bradford Jr., although Tyree Wilson will be missed.
The Red Raiders’ top two linebackers from last year are gone, but the secondary is in good shape. Texas Tech has a number of starters back, and San Diego State transfer CJ Bakerville will help.
National Championship Odds: Not Going to Happen
The Texas Tech Red Raiders future odds of +20000 let you know the team doesn’t have a realistic shot of reaching the NCAAF playoffs. They’ll be an excellent team in one of the top conferences in the country, which is impressive in its own right. But the Red Raiders aren’t a championship-caliber team this season.
Conference Odds: Texas Tech Needs Road Victories
After the Texas Tech Red Raiders future odds to win the Big 12 Conference were +4000 a year ago, Texas Tech is just +1200 this season. The Red Raiders have the fourth-lowest odds on the board. Texas Tech’s home slate isn’t bad. But if the Red Raiders want to compete for the conference championship, they’ll have to win on the road. The Big 12 road schedule includes games at Texas, Baylor, BYU and Kansas. The Red Raiders need to win at least two of those games.
Regular Season Wins: Eight Wins a Definite Possibility
The Red Raiders don’t have the easiest NCAAF schedule around. Texas Tech hosts Oregon in the second week of the season, and then there’s the Big 12 schedule. The Red Raiders do get Kansas State and TCU at home, but you know any Big 12 Conference schedule isn’t going to be easy.
Other than the game against the Ducks, Texas Tech’s non-conference slate isn’t all that bad. Wyoming and Tarleton State should be victories. Defeating Oregon at home would be a massive boost for the Red Raiders. Texas Tech will likely drop a few conference games, but the team is good enough to finish 8-4 in the regular season. The over isn’t among the best college football bets in win totals, but there is a bit of value there.
