UNC Tar Heels vs Clemson Tigers Odds: Clemson Goes After Another ACC Title
Clemson, North Carolina Look to Get Passing Games Going in ACC Title Matchup

North Carolina Eyeing First ACC Championship Game Victory
The ACC championship game won’t have a bearing on the College Football Playoff field after Clemson’s loss to South Carolina last week. Still, the chance to win a conference title provides plenty of motivation.
The last ACC championship game decided by seven points or less came in 2016 when Clemson topped Virginia Tech 42-35. More than 65 points have been scored in six of the last eight ACC championship games. This is the 10th year in a row with a different matchup in the ACC championship game.
Clemson fell three spots to No. 10 in the Associated Press poll and to 11th in the American Football Coaches Association rankings. North Carolina dropped to 22nd in the coaches’ poll and 24th in the AP.

North Carolina Tar Heels
The impressive season for redshirt freshman quarterback Drake Maye slowed down a bit in the last two weeks when he completed just 57% of his passes for 435 yards with one touchdown pass and two interceptions in losses to Georgia Tech and North Carolina State. He still has 3,847 yards with 35 TD passes and five interceptions. Even with one of the nation’s top passers, the UNC Tar Heels vs Clemson Tigers odds has North Carolina listed as the underdog.
Maye will look to get the connection going with Josh Downs after Downs was held to 82 yards on nine catches over the last two games. He needs 71 yards to hit the 1,000-yard mark.
North Carolina leads the conference in total offense, but is last in total defense and that has made for some entertaining games.
One of the issues on defense is a conference-low 16 sacks.
Clemson Tigers
After seeing their six-year run as ACC champions end when the Tigers failed to reach last year’s title contest, Clemson is back and favored according to the UNC Tar Heels vs Clemson Tigers odds.
The defense, despite missing key players for much of the season, is one of the best units in the ACC once again.
The Tigers lead the ACC with 96 tackles for loss with Myles Murphy leading the way with 11.
The passing game has been erratic with the Tigers throwing for 290 yards with two TDs and three interceptions in losses to Notre Dame and South Carolina. Running back Will Shipley has scored six touchdowns in the last five games.
North Carolina vs Clemson Injury Update
When looking at the college football injuries, running back Caleb Hood is questionable after missing the last four games while linebacker Noah Taylor (28 tackles, 3.5 sacks) is out for the season with a lower-body injury for North Carolina.
For Clemson, receiver Will Taylor is questionable after missing the last two games with a knee injury. Receiver Beaux Collins, who has a team-high five touchdown receptions, will miss the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. Cornerback Malcolm Greene and defensive end Xavier Thomas are also out for the season.
North Carolina vs Clemson Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the Tar Heels and Tigers since 2019 when Clemson edged North Carolina 21-20 as a 27.5-point favorite.
It was the fourth win in a row for the Tigers in the series with three of the games going over the total with games in 2011, 2014 and 2015 having an average of 88 points scored. The 2015 game came in the ACC title game.
North Carolina’s last win in the series came in 2010.
North Carolina vs Clemson Betting Preview
The Tar Heels and Tigers have taken different paths to the championship game. North Carolina used the dynamic passing offense to outscore teams while Clemson went a more old-fashioned way of relying on the running game and a strong defense.
The teams are a combined 11-12-1 against the spread during the 2022 season.
The total has gone over in seven of Clemson’s last 10 games with the total of 63 the highest of the nine conference championship games being played on Saturday.
Each of North Carolina’s last four games have been decided by four points or less while Clemson is 3-1 in one-score games this season.
North Carolina is tied for the ACC lead with 30 plays run on fourth down. Only Texas Tech, Baylor, Navy, Tennessee and West Virginia have converted more on fourth down than the Tar Heels. Clemson has gone for it just eight times on fourth down this season.
The NCAAF spreads hasn’t moved since it opened with Clemson favored by 7.5 points.
