Week 13 MAC Betting Odds: Ohio Looks to Clinch East

Toledo Waits for Opponent in MAC Championship Game

The Mid-American Conference is spreading the joy this week, with the NCAAF schedule showing two games on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. That’s a departure from the typical Tuesday and Wednesday games of the past.

Ohio has the inside track to winning the East. The MAC betting odds have the Bobcats 7.5-point favorites over Bowling Green. For Ohio, it’s win and advance to the MAC Championship. Bowling Green and Buffalo can still get there, but they both need the Falcons to pull the upset.

If Bowling Green defeats Ohio, Buffalo can reach the championship game with a win over Kent State. The Falcons need to defeat Ohio and then have Buffalo lose to the Golden Flashes to advance.

Game of the Week

Bowling Green vs Ohio

Date, time (TV):

Ohio (8-3, 6-1) is -7.5 over Bowling Green (6-5, 5-2) with a total of 56 in the MAC betting odds, as defense isn’t a strong suit of either team. The Bobcats are slightly better defensively, although that isn’t saying a whole lot. Both teams allow more than 30 points per game. Ohio’s pass defense is particularly bad and the Falcons can throw the ball a bit.

Ohio’s offensive edge is a little more prominent, with the Bobcats averaging 33.6 points per game compared to Bowling Green’s 24.7. Ohio passes for 304.5 yards per game and faces a Bowling Green defense that allows 263.3 yards per game. But this one will likely be decided by the ability of Ohio to stop the pass. The Bobcats are allowing 312.3 yards per game. The fact Ohio has won eight games is a testament to the team’s offense.

Other Games to Watch

Ball State vs Miami, Ohio

Date, time (TV):

The MAC betting odds have the RedHawks -3 with a total of 44.5. This is a big game for Ball State (5-6, 3-4) and Miami, Ohio (5-6, 3-4). Both need a win to become bowl eligible, while the loser will be done for the season. Ball State is No. 9 in the conference with 23.8 points per game, while Miami is right behind at No. 10, as the RedHawks average 20.5 points per game. Miami is last in the MAC in total offense, averaging just 305.8 total yards per game. The Cardinals average 381.5 yards per game.

Miami does lead the MAC in points allowed, surrendering 23.0 points a game, while Ball State allows an average of 27.7 points. The RedHawks are No. 4 in total defense, while Ball State checks in at No. 8. Miami gets the defensive nod, while Ball State is better offensively; so it looks as though the college football betting odds are pretty accurate for this game.

Kent State vs Buffalo

Date, time (TV):

The Max betting odds have Buffalo (5-5, 4-2) favored by 3.5 over Kent State (4-7, 3-4). With Buffalo’s game canceled last week against Akron, this one takes on added importance for the Bulls. Buffalo has five wins and needs one more for bowl eligibility. The MAC is scheduled to announce if the game will be made up sometime during the week. If the game is made up, expect the MAC betting odds to have Buffalo favored by roughly two touchdowns. That was the line in last week’s canceled game.

The Golden Flashes score 28.3 points and allow 29.2. The teams are nearly identical in total offense and total defense.

Buffalo will keep an eye on Tuesday’s game between Bowling Green and Ohio. If the Falcons can pull the upset, Buffalo can advance to the title game with a win. But this game isn’t a given for Buffalo. The Bulls average 29.8 points and allow 27.4. The Golden Flashes score 28.3 points and allow 29.2. The teams are nearly identical in total offense and total defense. But the Bulls should have a definite edge in intensity, as Buffalo has much more to play for. Another good game this week in the MAC.
