2023 USFL Betting Odds: Week 2 Lines Show Several Close Games
Stars Favored Over Panthers in Battle of 1-0 Teams

The 2023 USFL betting odds for Week 2 are calling for several defensive battles. With a high total of 44.5, points are expected to be tough to come by. No team scored 30 points last week and all teams scored at least 10 points.
Week 2 could see a bit of a bounce back from teams who weren’t sharp on opening week. And there were certainly several of them. There were several misleading finals that bettors may fail to catch, leading to some value in Week 2 against the 2023 USFL betting odds.

Houston Gamblers vs New Orleans Breakers
Day/Time: Location: Protective Stadium (Birmingham, Alabama)
Stream: USA
The Houston Gamblers (0-1) do battle with the New Orleans Breakers (1-0) to start Week 2 action. The football odds have New Orleans favored by 6 with a total of 39.
The Gamblers looked bad in last week’s 29-13 loss to Michigan. Houston was outgained 327-194 and made four turnovers. The Gamblers ran the ball fairly well but received no help from the passing game. The defense allowed 249 passing yards in the loss.
CFL veteran McLeod Bethel-Thompson had a big game for New Orleans, throwing for 302 yards. He should have a fair amount of success against the Gamblers’ pass defense. The line is a bit on the high side here, but New Orleans looks to be the correct side in this one.
Memphis Showboats vs Birmingham Stallions
Day/Time: Location: Protective Stadium (Birmingham, Alabama)
Stream: FOX
The 2023 USFL betting odds for Week 2 have Birmingham (1-0) favored by 8 points over (Memphis (0-1). The total in the game is 44.5 points.
The Showboats didn’t play badly in their opening loss to Philadelphia. Memphis held a small yardage advantage, but a costly turnover and a missed field goal led to a 27-23 setback. The Showboats threw for 198 yards and ran for 97, using a balanced offense.
Birmingham took care of New Jersey last week 27-10. But the final score doesn’t tell the real story of this game. The Stallions were outgained 361-310 but stopped the Generals on several occasions deep inside Birmingham territory. Add a couple of New Jersey fumbles to the equation and the final score was a blowout, although the game was anything. This could be a good spot for the Showboats to keep things close, so take Memphis +8.

New Jersey Generals vs Pittsburgh Maulers
Day/Time: Location: Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium (Canton, Ohio)
Stream: Peacock
New Jersey (0-1) squares off against Pittsburgh (0-1) in a battle of teams coming off Week 1 loss. The 2023 USFL betting odds have New Jersey favored by 2.5. The total in the game is 36.5.
The Generals played better against Birmingham than the final score indicates. New Jersey was its own worst enemy on several occasions and couldn’t overcome its mistakes. Dakota Prukop was 13 for 17 for 148 passing yards and the Generals ran for 197 yards.
Pittsburgh used a defensive touchdown and a punt return for a TD to keep things close against New Orleans last week. The Maulers were totally outclassed in the game and were bad offensively.
The Generals were 9-1 last year and too much is being read into the final score against Birmingham. Anyone betting on USFL Week 2 games should have New Jersey -2.5 as one of their selections.
Michigan Panthers vs Philadelphia Stars
Day/Time: Location: Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium (Canton, Ohio)
Stream: FS1
Michigan (1-0) meets Philadelphia (1-0) to conclude the USFL Week 2 schedule. It is one of the better games this week and the Stars are favored by 3. The total on the game is 42.5.
Michigan had no problems with Houston last week, cruising to an easy victory. The 29 points the Panthers scored were tops in the league for Week 1. The Panthers should be able to move the ball a bit against Philadelphia. Quarterback Josh Love was 18 for 200 passing for 215 yards.
The Stars defeated Memphis in a game that was pretty evenly played. The Showboats had slim margins in rushing and passing yards, but Philadelphia came up with plays when needed. Philadelphia ran for 94 yards and threw for 187. This one looks like it could go either way, so the right side to be on here is probably Michigan +3.
