2024 Anthony Richardson Season Odds: Colts QB Looks to Rebound
Indianapolis With High Hopes For Second-Year Signal Caller
Anthony Richardson’s first year in the NFL didn’t go quite as planned. He played in just four games before suffering a season-ending injury to his throwing shoulder.
Richardson and the team hope to avoid a repeat of last year and enter the new season with high expectations. The sportsbooks share those expectations to a degree.
The 2024 Anthony Richardson season odds are fairly lofty in some areas and reasonable in others. We’ll look at the primary wagers you can make on Richardson before the season starts.
Primary wagers for Richardson
Offensive Player of the Year +4000
It’s a pretty big leap going from four games to winning the NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award. Unlike some of the other awards, the Offensive POY gives a fair amount of weight to non-quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes was the last quarterback to win it in 2018.
It’s almost impossible to bet Richardson at these odds. He would have to outperform the other quarterbacks in the league and do better than the best running backs and wide receivers in the game.
Most Valuable Player +3300
The odds are a bit lower than expected here, even if it is an award that has gone to quarterbacks the last 12 seasons. Even if Richardson takes a step forward, winning the NFL Most Valuable Player is asking a lot for a second-year player.
It’s not impossible, as Richardson will receive consideration if he has a big year and leads the Colts to the playoffs. It’s just not very probable.
Passing Yards 3200.5 Over/Under
The 2024 Anthony Richardson season odds on passing yards are 3,200.5 yards, which averages out to just over 188 yards per game. If healthy, those are numbers he should get. Richardson threw for over 200 yards twice last season, and the Colts lost both games.
He also had a concussion, which caused him to miss more time before his injury last season. So he really only played several full games. He’ll have big games in Indianapolis victories over the course of the season.
You can’t blame anybody hesitant to use Richardson going over 3200.5 yards in their NFL picks due to his injury history.
Passing TDs 17.5 Over/Under
The NFL public betting has pushed this number from 18.5 to 17.5, although that may not be the correct move. Richardson can make things happen and missing time is about the only thing that will keep him from throwing 20 touchdown passes or more.
Indianapolis doesn’t figure to be a great team, so they’ll be playing from behind or close to even on many possessions. That will give Richardson more passing attempts, leading to a few more scores. There is a little bit of rationale for taking the over 17.5 touchdown passes here.
Rushing Yards 550.5 Over/Under
The 2024 Anthony Richardson season odds look a little tempting on the over here, although there are two potential hazards. The obvious one is that Richardson misses time again this year.
The other is the Colts could put the reigns on him running the football. Indianapolis is probably in no hurry to let their quarterback run around the field, although that’s when he’s at his best. The Colts need to let Richardson play his game to take full advantage of his skillset.
He is not a drop-back pocket passer and the Colts are doing Richardson and themselves a disservice if they try and make him one. The over here has a little bit of promise.
