2024 NFL Cheat Sheet: New Orleans Saints Stats Odds

The New Orleans Saints finished above .500 last season, but oddsmakers and many analysts think they will fall out of the NFL playoff race this season.

The Saints are playing in a winnable division: the NFC South, which includes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, and Carolina Panthers.

These aren’t exactly powerhouse teams.

• The Buccaneers finished last season with a 9-8 record and tied with the Saints for first place. Meanwhile, the Falcons had only seven wins, and the Panthers tallied just two last season.

While many teams improved in free agency, the Saints were ultimately pretty quiet, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Derek Carr is still the quarterback, and he’ll still have Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams as running backs. Additionally, the top three wide receivers are the same, too.

That’s not very convincing. Ultimately, the Saints are cap-strapped, which could push them into a potential rebuild in a couple of seasons.

Saints Can’t Get Back To The Playoffs

Once Drew Brees retired as quarterback of the Saints, New Orleans hasn’t been back in the playoffs since. The Saints will give head coach Dennis Allen another opportunity to win the NFC South.

It’ll be his third season as head coach with the Saints, but he’s had other stints with the Oakland Raiders.

• Allen’s overall record as head coach is 24-46. Still, he registered his first winning season as head coach last season with a 9-8 record.

His improvements have at least kept him off the hot seat. But another year without the playoffs won’t help his situation.

They’ll need Alvin Kamara or Chris Olave to become NFL touchdown leaders this season to get out of the rut.

That’s because the Saints didn’t add any new veteran playmakers to the offense and elected to keep what they had. That likely won’t work out well for the Saints.

• Super Bowl Odds: The Chaos Will Begin Early

If the Saints want to be anywhere near the Super Bowl, they must prove themselves early. New Orleans will face Dallas, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Kansas City, and Tampa Bay from Weeks 2-6. These five games could all easily result in losses, especially with three on the road.

A poor start could also keep the Saints out of playoff contention. Thus, their Super Bowl odds are a moot point.

• Conference Odds: The Schedule Isn’t That Bad

We discussed the schedule at the beginning of the season. But despite that, the Saints don’t have the hardest schedule. After all, they’re competing for the NFC South, one of the weakest divisions in the NFL.

They’ll play AFC West teams and have six other games against NFC South opponents. Furthermore, they’ll take on NFC East teams that are a big mystery, especially with the Giants and Commanders.

Yet, Derek Carr and the Saints will unlikely advance to the Super Bowl over some of the better NFC squads.

• • Division Odds: Anything Can Happen!

This would likely be your best bet if you desperately wanted to bet on the Saints. The Saints went 9-8 last season and tied for first place. They didn’t win the division due to a tiebreaker and still missed a Wild Card spot.

But at least they’ll be competitive in this conference.

• That said, we don’t think the Saints will win the division. Other NFL teams improved this year. The Falcons, for example, have an entirely new coaching staff.

Kirk Cousins is at quarterback, and he’ll be able to utilize many playmakers who weren’t given the opportunities to shine last season.

While Carolina will still likely be one of the bottom feeders, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers proved their worth last season with Baker Mayfield at quarterback. They brought him back along with Mike Evans, which was key to their success last year.

• Regular Season Wins: An Easy Schedule Doesn’t Mean Anything

The Saints don’t have a tough schedule, but that doesn’t mean anything when they’re not as good as most teams in the league.

The Saints failed to make additions that helped them stand out this year. They need health to be on their side, and they’ll also need a couple of players like Rashid Shaheed to break out.

Shaheed is expected to improve his 2024 New Orleans Saints stats. We’ll see if he becomes more reliable this season. We have our doubts, which is that the Saints will lose at least ten games this season.

• To Make Playoffs: Not Happening With 10 Losses

The Saints went all-in on Derek Carr, and while that’s not a bad thing, they can’t add another massive playmaker on offense.

While most teams have improved on paper, the Saints didn’t. For any hope of survival, they must develop their players in the offseason.

You can still consider the NFL lines for the Saints to make the playoffs since they’re in a weaker conference. It just wouldn’t be our best bet.

Tyrann Mathieu Regular Season Defensive Interceptions 2024-25

Tyrann Mathieu is back for his third season with the Saints. The former LSU star added four interceptions last season and earned nine pass deflections. With the Saints, Mathieu recorded at least three interceptions in his first two seasons.

He’s also added at least three interceptions in five consecutive years.

There’s a defensive prop where you can bet the Over 2.5 for Mathieu’s interceptions this season at +122. This bet is valuable when considering his projected 2024 New Orleans Saints stats.
