2024 NFL Season Preview: Who Will End Up With Best Record?
Chiefs And 49ers Are Leaders

With yesterday’s Hall of Fame Game — the first preseason game of the year — officially in the books, it’s clear that the 2024 NFL season is rapidly approaching.
This season is set to be an awesome one with so many top-flight contenders jockeying for position in both the AFC and NFC.
So, there’s no better team than the present, before preseason really starts up in full force, to look at the 2024 NFL most wins odds to see which teams are expecting to finish at the top of the heap record-wise.

Of course, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers lead the way as the two reigning conference champions but, in the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals should be close on Kansas City’s heels while San Francisco will be pushed by the Eagles, Lions and Cowboys, to name a few.
Younger teams like Falcons and Texans are on the rise and even the next tier of best NFL teams (the Bills, Packers, Dolphins, Jets) can all make some serious noise.
Let’s run through the NFL odds and see who looks likeliest to wind up with the NFL’s best record when it’s all said and done:
Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers (+500)
No surprises here as the Chiefs and 49ers met in last year’s Super Bowl LVIII, which was about as a close as Super Bowls get.
- Kansas City is returning all of its major pieces on offense and added wide receiver Hollywood Brown who should be another explosive weapon for Patrick Mahomes to turn to in an already loaded passing game.
Look no further than Andy Reid’s team for the 2024 NFL most wins odds.
Right with them is San Francisco which appears to be close to re-signing star wideout Brandon Aiyuk after protracted contract negotiations.
The 49ers and their stacked defense got better up front too, adding pass rusher Leonard Floyd, defensive tackle Maliek Collins and linebacker De’Vondre Campbell.
So much of San Francisco’s success depends on the continued growth of Brock Purdy, though, who was awesome last season and came very close to winning a Super Bowl in his first full season as a starter.
Once again, these two teams should be at the very top of the league NFL standings by the end of the season.
Baltimore Ravens (+700)
The Ravens have the third-best odds to finish with the best NFL record and third-best current Super Bowl odds and with good reason.
They 13-4 in 2023 and lost a close AFC Divisional Round game to the Chiefs in the postseason. Lamar Jackson is coming off his second MVP season and future Hall-of-Fame running back Derrick Henry is now anchoring the backfield.
However, Baltimore did lose star linebacker Patrick Queen to the rival Steelers and has to replace a bunch of offensive line starters, so there is some reason to be concerned with the Ravens’ staying power.
- They’re still probably the best team in the division, though, and Jackson is so good that he can paper over a lot of holes Baltimore may have, especially on offense. +700 is good value.
Cincinnati Bengals (+900)
The other AFC North team in the upper echelon of contenders is Cincinnati which is looking to bounce back from a very disappointing 2023 campaign.
- The Bengals went 9-8, finished last in the division and missed the NFL playoffs while Joe Burrow only played 10 games. They didn’t have a great offseason, losing starting defensive tackle D.J.
Reader and offensive tackle Jonah Williams as well as cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, but the case for the Bengals is that Tee Higgins is back and this team, when healthy, is as talented as any in football. There should be a lot of positive regression with Cincinnati.

Philadelphia Eagles (+1000)
Let’s go from one major disappointment to another. Despite a late-season collapse and embarrassing playoff defeat to the Buccaneers, the Eagles are still high on the 2024 NFL most wins odds because they really only lost D’Andre Swift in free agency while replacing him with Saquon Barkley, adding elite pass-rusher Bryce Huff from the Jets and bringing back play-making safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
The defense is improved and the wide receive group should be better as well. For the Eagles, it’s all about that side of the football after finishing with the third-worst scoring defense in football a year ago.
Detroit Lions (+1200)
Many NFL expert picks have the Lions as an underrated play for the best record. They took the NFL by storm in 2023, improving from 9-8 to 12-5 and winning their first playoff game (actually two) since 1991 before bowing out to San Francisco in a classic NFC Championship Game.
They had a nice offseason, adding cornerbacks Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson with Reader and Marcus Davenport supplementing a stout defensive line.
Offensive, Detroit returns a really good offensive line to go with a solid skill-position group around Goff. This team is very well-balanced.
Dallas Cowboys (+1400)
Never count out the Cowboys even if they routinely fade in the postseason, as they did last year with an ugly 48-32 Wild Card round loss to the Packers.
Dallas didn’t exactly have the most inspiring offseason, essentially swapping Tony Pollard for Ezekiel Elliott and Royce Freeman — a big downgrade — and signing linebacker Eric Kendricks while losing the retired Leighton Vander Esch.
Michael Gallup retired, offensive lineman Tyler Biadasz and Tyron Smith signed elsewhere and a huge chunk of the defensive line is now good.
So, Mike McCarthy will have his work cut out for him even with one of the league’s best quarterbacks in Dak Prescott and one of the best wideouts in CeeDee Lamp.
- Dallas should, once again, be a very good team but having to deal with the Eagles in division makes them a bit overvalued for best record at +1400.
