49ers vs Rams Odds: Nacua & Atwell’s Consistency for Rams?
Nacua & Atwell Combined for 16 Receptions in Week 1

The NFC West is supposed to be one of the weakest divisions in the NFL this season. However, don’t tell the 49ers or the Rams.
Both NFL teams left Week 1 with a win and will be playing for first place in the division in Week 2 of the NFL season.
There’s a lot of football left on the schedule. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. But unless there’s a tie between the 49ers and Rams, one team in the NFC West will begin the season 2-0.
The 49ers should be that team. But the Rams could be a sneaky team throughout the rest of the season.
After a win against the Seahawks on Sunday, can the Rams earn another major divisional upset to jumpstart the season?
Take a look at the 49ers vs Rams odds for the NFC West divisional rivalry NFL matchup.

It’s Championship or Bust for the 49ers
The 49ers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers to begin the season with a 30-7 win.
San Francisco stormed out of the gate with ten points each quarter in the first half.
The 49ers never let up from there. They scored at least three points every quarter and held the Steelers to just seven points in the entire game.
49ers’ left tackle Trent Williams admitted that he hoped the Steelers played better on offense later in the game because he was getting tired.
The Steelers had countless three-and-outs, forcing the offense to play most of the game. The 49ers won the time of possession, 37:23 to 22:37, against the Steelers. Williams wasn’t wrong about being on the field for so long.
San Francisco was one of the best defenses last year but lost DeMeco Ryans to the Houston Texans, where he got the head coaching gig. Therefore, Steve Wilks is now the defensive coordinator for the 49ers. He has some head coaching experience, and looks like he helped the 49ers stay on track defensively.
Last season, the 49ers led a lot of the NFL defense stats. It doesn’t look like anything will change this season.
The Rams’ Receivers Stepped Up!
Many analyses were against the Rams’ receiving core once Cooper Kupp was placed on the injured list.
The Rams tanked away their season last year when Kupp and Matthew Stafford were unavailable to play. Therefore, many expected the Rams to tank away this season to get a new young quarterback that could replace Matthew Stafford.
But that’s not what happened.
The Rams put up 30 points on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 on the road. Stafford completed 24 passes for 334 yards. Although he didn’t throw a touchdown, he found Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell 16 times for 238 yards combined.
Nacua got 15 targets, and Atwell saw nine targets. Those two replaced Kupp very well.
Without Kupp, the consensus was that Van Jefferson would be the main guy in the offense. He only had five targets and hauled in four catches for 24 yards. The one incompletion was a pure drop from Van Jefferson.
The mood has changed around the Rams now. They’ve got two receivers that stepped up when their numbers were called.
Puka Nacua was drafted in the fifth round of the most recent NFL Draft. He played for Washington and BYU, where he put up some big-time stats. He’s become a hot commodity, with everyone believing he can put up Cooper Kupp-like stats.
Meanwhile, Tutu Atwell joined the league in 2021 as a second-round pick by the Rams out of Louisville. He didn’t play in 2021 but had 18 catches in 2022 for 298 yards.
In one game, Atwell already caught six balls for 119 yards. The Rams saw something in Atwell when they drafted him with the second-round selection. He’s certainly got the talent to be a reliable receiver.
49ers vs Rams Odds
The NFL point spread has the 49ers sitting at -8 against the Rams for Week 2. The total is currently at 44.5.
As slight favorites against the Steelers on the road, the 49ers earned a 30-7 victory. They’re now 1-0 against the spread and hit the Under 41 in that matchup.
Meanwhile, the Rams were a four-point underdog against the Seahawks on the road and won 30-13 in their matchup. Again, the Rams covered the spread and played good enough defense to keep the score under 44.5.
Matthew Stafford looked incredible in his 2023-’24 debut. He added 334 yards passing on 24-for-38 from the field. He also made two wide receivers famous and played well behind an excellent offensive line.
Los Angeles has two reliable running backs, Kyren Williams and Cam Akers. Currently, it seems both of those guys will be fresh and share carries.
Williams looked better in Week 1, but we won’t overreact.
Neither running back will likely succeed much against the 49ers’ run defense. The 49ers held the Steelers to just 41 yards last weekend on the ground. The pass rush will be disruptive, and the coverage is top-tier.
Matthew Stafford didn’t throw an interception last weekend. But he’s typically good for at least one per game. He’s made some really poor decisions throughout his career. The 49ers will bait him.
On the other hand, San Francisco needs to block better in the passing game. Despite the poor blocking, the 49ers added 220 yards in the air behind Brock Purdy at quarterback. He found Brandon Aiyuk eight times for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
We’d love to see Deebo Samuel get more involved with the offense after a down year last season. The Niners have a lot of offensive weapons and will face a Rams defense that still didn’t impress that much against the Seahawks last weekend.
Don’t be surprised when you check the NFL scores on Sunday when the 49ers have their way against the Rams in Week 2.
The 49ers Are Superior!
There will be a lot of talk about how the Rams held the Seahawks to just 197 yards of offense last weekend. But only the pass rush was even close to good last weekend. The Seahawks’ offense was just not prepared. That won’t happen with Brock Purdy and the 49ers’ offense against the Rams.
The 49ers added over 400 of offense against a highly respected Steelers defense. Again, the pass protection and even run blocking will need to improve.
But the 49ers have so much talent around Brock Purdy. If Purdy limits turnovers and lets the defense do their thing, the 49ers will earn a double-digit win against the Rams on Sunday.
Christian McCaffrey ran 22 times for 152 yards and a touchdown, even after the offensive line didn’t play its best. The Niners will scheme up plenty of runs against a Rams defense that won’t be very good against the run this season.
With the 49ers vs Rams odds, take the 49ers to cover the eight-point spread.
