Bills Making Their Home in Detroit
Buffalo got back on the win column with a 31-23 win over Cleveland this past Sunday. The Bills overcame a sluggish first quarter where they had 15 total yards. Thus, Buffalo snapped a two-game skid and finally covered a game. It’s the first time they have done so since their win over Kansas City back in Week 6.
With Buffalo now with its “mojo” back, the books expect bettors to trust it heavily. The team has the advantage of already being in Detroit while, ironically, the home team returns from New Jersey. Quarterback Josh Allen greatly appreciated the locals who helped the team make their way from Buffalo to Detroit.
“Pay those fans some f—ing respect. Get them something nice man, treat them well, because that was f—ing awesome to see,” Allen told his teammates after the game.
Allen is also referencing Dave “Squirrel” Winter and the locals who plowed the roads to help the players make their way to the airport for the game. Now, Buffalo does not need to travel as they can get back to practicing in a short week.
The Bills are 5-4-1 against the spread (ATS) this football season but have failed to cover against an NFC North opponent in their last five games against them. That includes Chicago and Minnesota this season. Buffalo is 3-3 ATS against Detroit in their last six meetings even if it won five of these games.
This will only be Allen’s second game against Detroit. He led the Bills to a 14-13 win against the Lions in his rookie year. He threw for a touchdown and rushed for another though the Bills failed to cover the 2.5-point spread. Now, Allen and the Bills will look to do that one better by blowing out Detroit in its own stadium per the Bills vs Lions Betting odds.
Lions in Uncharted Territory
The Lions have won three straight games for the first time since 2017. Nearly all of the football players from that team though these”new” Lions have what it takes to be a future contender. Detroit has been a potent offensive team and are putting up 25 points a game, good for eighth in the NFL. But the defense has turned a corner.
Since Campbell took over as coach, the Lions are 16-9-0 ATS as an underdog.
Detroit defeated Green Bay and the Giants by holding them to 18 points or fewer. Even if the Lions are still giving up the most points on average (28.2), improvements from the defense give this team more chances to win. Still, as the Bills vs Lions betting odds indicate, no one is convinced Detroit is suddenly a defensive force.
The total has gone up in seven of their 10 games this season, which is the second-best percentage. Against Buffalo, Detroit will have to stop the NFL’s most talented squad. The Bills put up 28.1 points per game and have scored 30 or more points five or more times this season. Buffalo is 4-1 when it does and Detroit is 1-3 when it gives up that many NFL scores.
But following an upset over the Giants, Detroit improves to 3-5 as one and 5-3-0 ATS. Since Campbell took over as coach, the Lions are 16-9-0 ATS as an underdog. And true to form, the fiery coach gave an impassioned speech following their win:
“That doesn’t happen by accident. Everything we talked about. We stayed the course which you guys have done. We’re playing some pretty clean, physical football man. Defense, you came to life. We got the takeaways. Offense, we dominated when we needed to. We dominated the ground game….made the throws we had to. We were efficient. That’s the way to win, man. Now you’re figuring it out. Now we’re figuring it out. That’s three.”
