Can Added Muscle Help Protect Burrow From Injury In 2023?

Backing The Joe Burrow MVP Odds Isn't A Bad Idea

The Cincinnati Bengals starting quarterback, Joe Burrow, has already added a National Championship and Heisman Award.

However, he hasn’t secured an NFL MVP or NFL Super Bowl. That’s next on his list.

Burrow and the Bengals tasted the Super Bowl but ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI in 2022.

Last season was a disaster for Burrow and the Bengals. Burrow injured his calf during training camp. Although he began the season, he never exactly looked right. Eventually, when his calf healed, he injured his wrist in the middle of the season.

From there, he was forced to miss the remainder of the season. Burrow played ten games and secured only 15 passing touchdowns with six interceptions. He also finished with just 2,309 yards.

This was the second season where Burrow couldn’t finish out the season due to a season-ending injury. Some believe he’ll be injury-prone, and others think Burrow is a bit overrated.

Burrow chose this off-season to add ten lbs of muscle, thanks to a new nutrition plan and schedule that added two dinners. Burrow believes the added weight will keep him healthy throughout the season. A healthy Burrow means the Bengals will likely be near the top of the NFL power rankings throughout the year.

If Burrow can stay healthy, he’ll have a legitimate chance at earning an MVP. He’ll also give the Bengals a chance at returning to the Super Bowl.

Let’s discuss the Joe Burrow MVP odds and other early season odds for the upcoming season.

Joe Burrow’s Passing Yards

  • Passing Yards 4050.5 (O/U +105/-125)

Joe Burrow easily earned more than 4,051 yards passing in two of four seasons in the NFL.

He didn’t come close in the two seasons where he missed games. However, in the other two seasons, during which he stayed healthy, Burrow earned at least 4,475 yards.

This prop relies on his health. The NFL scores for the Bengals also rely on his health.

Burrow still has Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins at receiver, as well as Jermaine Burton and many other exciting young receivers.

In addition, the Bengals added Zack Moss as the starting running back. They’ve also got Chase Brown, who will likely be asked to make some plays in the receiving game with Burrow.

Beyond that, Cincinnati signed Mike Gesicki to a deal. He’ll be the starting tight end. He’s someone who can make a bigger impact than what he’s done previously.

The offensive line also looks better overall. As long as they protect Burrow, good things will happen. Prepare to take his NFL player props throughout the season. You won’t be disappointed.

Joe Burrow’s Passing Touchdowns

  • 28.5 Passing Touchdowns (O/U +105/-125)

When Burrow added at least 4,475 yards, he finished with at least 34 passing touchdowns. Again, these props all rely on his health. If Burrow can play an entire season, he’ll hit the Over.

Burrow has completed 68% of his passes throughout his career. He also had a quarterback rating above 100 in both seasons, and he added more than 28 touchdowns and 4,051 yards.

Plus, as we discussed earlier, Burrow is now bulking up. If he’s bulking up, Burrow might be a bit slower with his feet overall. Therefore, he might have to look to pass more. While the Bengals likely still want Burrow to be aggressive, he knows he must be smarter to protect himself.

That likely means more passing and less scrambling to avoid another disaster. That’s why we’d consider these Joe Burrow MVP odds for his passing touchdowns.

Joe Burrow To Win MVP

  • To Win MVP +900

Joe Burrow has not won an MVP award in his four NFL seasons. However, he’s currently +900 to win the MVP this year. That’s tied for third with Josh Allen. Burrow is only behind Patrick Mahomes and C.J. Stroud on the MVP list.

In 2021, Burrow won the AP Comeback Player of the Year after returning from a torn ACL to help the Bengals make the Super Bowl.

Then, in 2022, he lost to Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Josh Allen for the MVP after another remarkable season. All three of those players earned at least one first-place vote. Burrow didn’t. Yet, he still broke the Bengals season-long touchdown record that season.

Burrow still earned ten second-place votes and 18 third-place votes.

This season, it feels like there have been many moving parts. If Josh Allen has a big season, people will look at him differently now that Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis are out of the picture. However, at this point, C.J. Stroud is probably overvalued and overhyped heading into the season.

Patrick Mahomes is always the top guy, but Burrow has already proven that he can be just as good as Mahomes.

We don’t think backing the Joe Burrow MVP odds of +900 to win the MVP is a bad idea.
