Chiefs vs Buccaneers Betting Odds: Injuries Could Impact Super Bowl Rematch

Super Bowl Rematch On Tap With Chiefs Visiting Buccaneers

QBs Look to Get Going when Super Bowl Contenders Square Off in Tampa

It must be early in the season when Joe Flacco and Carson Wentz have more passing yards than either Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs or Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both QBs are dealing with depleted options at receiver and questions with the offensive line. Perhaps that is why the Chiefs vs Buccaneers betting odds list this game as a Pick’em.

Brady will welcome back star receiver Mike Evans, who was suspended for a game for coming to the defense of his quarterback resulting with an altercation with New Orleans cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

While many games are being shifted out of Florida in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Ian, all systems are go for this game to be played in Tampa on Sunday night. There was a contingency for the game to be moved to Minneapolis in the event that it couldn’t be held at Raymond James Stadium.

Keep an eye on the NFL point spreads week 4 as kickoff approaches to see if the line moves and favors one of these teams.

The Buccaneers, priced at -350, remain the heavy favorite to win the NFC South Division title while the Chiefs (-120) are favored to win the AFC West once again.

Kansas City Chiefs

It is obvious that the Chiefs miss star receiver Tyreek Hill, the NFL’s current leader with 477 receiving yards, as Hill in thriving in Miami while Kansas City is still trying to figure some things out.

The Mahomes to Kelce chemistry is one of the reasons why the odds for this game are even per the Chiefs vs Buccaneers betting odds.

Veterans JuJu Smith Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are doing what they can fill the shoes of Hill. Rookie Skyy Moore has just one catch so far. Mahomes does have eight TD passes and just one interception, so is not like an APB needs to be put out on the Kansas City passing offense. Tight end Travis Kelce continues to be the go-to player in the passing game. The Mahomes to Kelce chemistry is one of the reasons why the odds for this game are even per the Chiefs vs Buccaneers betting odds.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire needs to get the ball more. He is averaging 5.3 yards  per carry, but has just 22 rushing attempts as rookie Isiah Pacheco and veteran Jerick McKinnon are also being worked into the running back rotation.

Promising rookie cornerback Trent McDuffie is on injured reserve with a hamstring issue. The Chiefs have 10 sacks with Carlos Dunlap one  of three Kansas City players with at least two sacks.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Buccaneers fans took a deep breath when center Ryan Jensen was injured during the preseason. He is such a key piece of the Tampa Bay offense and with a pair of guards leaving in the offseason, there were concerns about the Bucs ability to limit the pressure up the middle. Those concerns are legitimate as the Buccaneers are 27th in the NFL in total offense.

Tampa Bay hasn’t scored more than 20 points in a game this season. Getting back Evans after he missed last week’s loss to Green Bay will help and there is a chance that Julio Jones will return to the field as well. Perhaps that is why this is a Pick’em according to the Chiefs vs Buccaneers betting odds.

Leonard Fournette has been busy with an average of 19 carries per game. He has been solid with four yards per carry, but more will be needed.

If Tampa Bay doesn’t have the best defense in the NFL, it is a short list of teams with better defensive units.

There are no such issues on the other side of the ball. If Tampa Bay doesn’t have the best defense in the NFL, it is a short list of teams with better defensive units. Linebacker Devin White leads the team with 24 tackles and three sacks as Tampa Bay has 11 sacks.

Chiefs vs Buccaneers Injury Update

When looking at the NFL injury report, a new name just popped up and it is a big one in more ways than one. Kansas City defensive tackle Chris Jones is questionable. If he can’t go, that will change the complexion of this matchup.

Kansas City receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (shoulder) and offensive lineman Andrew Wylie (hip) are probable, receivers Mecole Hardman (heel) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, defensive end Mike Danna (calf), Harrison Butker (ankle), running back Ronald Jones (illness), offensive lineman Darian Kinnard (elbow). Tight end Blake Bell (hip), cornerback Trent McDuffie (hamstring) and offensive lineman Lucas Niang (knee) are out indefinitely.

For Tampa Bay, receiver Julio Jones (knee) is probable, receivers Russell Gage (hamstring) and Breshad Perriman (hamstring), offensive tackle Donovan Smith (elbow), tight end Cade Otton and defensive back Zyon McCollum (hamstring) are questionable… Running back Giovani Bernard (ankle), defensive lineman Akiem Hicks (foot), offensive linemen Ryan Jensen (knee) and Josh Wells (calf) are out indefinitely.

Chiefs vs Buccaneers Head to Head

The stakes aren’t quite as high as the last meeting between the teams when Tampa Bay, a three-point underdog, topped the Chiefs 31-9 to win the franchise’s second Super Bowl title on Feb. 7, 2021.

The last regular-season meeting was a 27-24 victory by visiting Kansas City, a 3.5-point favorite.

Tampa Bay had won the previous five regular season meetings and covered against the NFL point spread in four of them.

Chiefs vs Buccaneers Betting Preview

When the teams played in the Super Bowl, an aggressive defensive game plan brought pressure on KC quarterback Mahomes and kept him from making throws down the field. Look for more of that from both teams as both the Chiefs and Buccaneers have been able to make plays in the offensive backfield.

These are two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and it is just a matter of time before both Mahomes and Brady start rolling. This might not be the best week for it to happen, but a prime time affair on Sunday should bring the best out both players.

The total has gone over in eight of Kansas City’s last 11 games as well as in five of the last six road games. However, the total has gone under in four of Tampa Bay’s last five games. The Buccaneers know something about playing low-scoring games in 2022.

The Buccaneers have covered in each of the last five home games against Kansas City.

Despite the concerns circling around both teams, they are 2-1.
