Saturday Looking for Colts Win Against Vikings on Saturday

Colts Visit Vikings as Underdogs This Saturday

It’s a rare Saturday game and what better than one with Jeff Saturday and his Indianapolis Colts riding into the U.S. Bank Stadium to take on the Vikings? Minnesota is favored by four points on the NFL betting odds despite getting upset by the Lions. While we’ve already surrendered to the temptation of making puns out of the Colts’ newest head coach, there could be a competitive game here as the Colts vs Vikings betting preview outlines.

Colts Looking to Be More Than Just a Pun

The Colts became the laughingstock of the NFL when Jim Irsay named Jeff Saturday (yes, that guy) the team’s new coach. While he and the NFL team managed to shut people up with an upset for Las Vegas and a near-upset over Philadelphia, the naysayers have proven to be right thus far.

Indianapolis lost to the Steelers and then got eviscerated by the Cowboys. Quarterback Matt Ryan looked washed up in that Cowboys’ loss. Saturday and the coaching staff made more than a few questionable calls in the losses as well. If they’re to find a way back to respectability, it starts with covering against the Vikings.

The Week 15 NFL odds have Indianapolis as +175 underdogs (+4). They are 2-2 against the spread (ATS) in the Saturday era and are 2-3 straight-up as a road underdog. Saturday confirmed that Ryan will continue to start for the team. The 37-year-old leads the NFL in interceptions (13) and his 84.0 passer rating is his worst since his sophomore NFL season in 2009. But he should still be the best option for the team.

“I hate to pinpoint one guy or one position, but obviously that’s the quarterback position in the NFL. You get way too much credit, you get way too much blame,” Saturday said. “There’s part of his game that has to improve and we’ve talked about that with a number of different guys. We gotta play our best, and if we’re gonna win, we need Matt playing his A game and that’s my expectation for him.”

The Colts had five turnovers against the Cowboys. But it was just one of seven games where they turned the ball over two or more times. They only won one of those games and it came in overtime against Denver. The Colts rank last in the NFL in both turnovers (26) and turnover differential (-14).

If Indianapolis can’t find a way to take care of the ball, Saturday’s game will be as cringe-worthy as this Colts vs Vikings betting preview’s redundant use of puns.

Vikings to Stay Perfect as Chalk

Minnesota may have lost to Detroit, but it maintained it is still undefeated as a favorite: 9-0 on the moneyline. Vikings backers are better off betting this team straight on the NFL odds as Minnesota tends to escape by the skin of its teeth. That’s why the Vikings are just 6-6-1 ATS. But at home, Minnesota has been a bit more reliable with a 4-2-0 ATS record.

Many will consider the Vikings a fluke of a team given how they win so many one-score games. Minnesota is 9-0 in games decided by eight points or fewer. But we can’t look past this team’s ability to make clutch plays on both sides of the ball.

Love him or hate him, Kirk Cousins leads the NFL with six game-winning drives and six fourth-quarter comebacks. The 34-year-old has a 101.1 passer rating in the fourth quarter and has eight total touchdowns to just two interceptions.

And on the defensive side of the ball, the Vikings have the eighth-most takeaways (20). Minnesota played six games where they won the turnover battle and won all of them.

So a theme is now developing in this Colts vs Vikings betting preview and that is turnovers. On one side are the Colts who keep coughing up the ball. And on the other are the Vikings, who win games by exploiting the turnover differential. It’s a big reason why this team is -210 on the book.
