Does Bo Nix Have Inside Track on Broncos’ QB Job?
2024 Bo Nix Season Odds Paint Promising Outlook

Goodbye Russell Wilson, hello Bo Nix!
The former Auburn and Oregon quarterback takes over in Denver, where head coach Sean Payton envisions him as the Broncos‘ quarterback of the future. Nix, drafted 12th overall, enters training camp in competition with two others for the starting job.
How will he fare as a rookie in 2024? Let’s take a closer look and break down the 2024 Bo Nix season odds.
Passing Yards
Over 2,850.5: -110
Under 2,850.5: -110
Our first 2024 Bo Nix season odds outlook focuses on passing yards. Nix has been quick to impress his new team, with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reporting that the rookie first-rounder is “everything Sean Payton thought he would be” when he drafted him 12th overall.
That certainly bodes well for his chances of beating out Zach Wilson and Jarrett Stidham for the starting job in training camp.
Stidham is the elder statesman in the quarterback room, having been in the NFL since 2019. He made two starts for Denver last season, going 1-1 after Russell Wilson was benched in December.
Wilson, (Zach) meanwhile, spent the last three seasons with the Jets, who drafted him second overall in 2021. He was traded to Denver in late April and now hopes to rebound under Payton, who’s renowned for his offensive acumen,
Nix may not have the inside track on the starting job, but he certainly profiles as the quarterback of the future in Denver. Experience shouldn’t be too much of a concern, as Nix, 24, made 61 starts in college at Auburn and Oregon.
He threw for over 15,000 yards and 113 touchdowns over five seasons and was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2023.
Should he get the nod in Week One over Wilson and Stidham, Nix would likely have no trouble topping this prop. That’d make it one of our NFL best bets. Twenty NFL quarterbacks surpassed 2,850 yards in 2023. Three others threw for at least 2,400 yards. That includes Justin Fields and Josh Dobbs, each of whom played only 13 games.
Touchdowns
Over 17.5: +110
Under 17.5: -135
Nix was one of the nation’s most productive quarterbacks in his lone season at Oregon, throwing for 4,508 yards and an FBS-best 45 touchdowns compared to only three interceptions. He also ran for 228 yards and six scores.
Denver’s offense sagged under Payton, ranking 26th in yards per game (298.4) and 19th in scoring (21.0 PPG). Wilson threw 26 touchdowns, though he averaged a career-low 6.9 yards per attempt.
Seeking to revitalize that side of the ball, Payton bypassed other positions to grab Nix. He was the sixth quarterback taken in the draft:
- Behind USC’s Caleb Williams (first overall)
- LSU’s Jayden Daniels (second)
- North Carolina’s Drake Maye (third)
- Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. (eighth)
- Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy (10th).
Nix, who was widely praised for his leadership and intangibles at multiple college stops, could have the moxie to start this season. That would make this prop very attainable, as 19 NFL quarterbacks passed for 18 touchdowns or more in 2023. Among them was Kirk Cousins, who played in only eight games before tearing his Achilles tendon.
Denver lacks offensive playmakers, especially after trading wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to Cleveland. That said, even a modest offense should produce enough points through the air to hit this NFL player prop.
NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds
+1600
Nix may not have a defined role for 2024, but oddsmakers are clearly bullish about him making an impact from the jump. In fact:
- At +1600, Nix and McCarthy share the fourth-shortest odds to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
- Williams (+135)
- Daniels (+550)
- Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (+650) are the only rookies with better odds.
Again, Denver’s offense lacks firepower, but Nix elevating that unit would go a long way in the eyes of the voters. His experience bolsters his chances of being successful at an early age.
Keep in mind, three of the last five Offensive Rookie of the Year winners have been quarterbacks, including C.J. Stroud in 2023. That’s important to remember when analyzing any NFL expert picks.
