Kyler Murray Needs a Healthy Season to Hit His Props

The 2024 Kyler Murray Season Odds are in and we are going to take a look at the NFL latest line to see if he is likely to exceed or fall short of his preseason props.

Murray’s opening lines for the 2024 NFL season were 3400.5 (over/under -110) passing yards and 21.5 touchdowns (over +100/under (-125). FanDuel now has his passing yards prop at 3525.5 (over/under -112) and his passing touchdowns line at 20.5 (over -112/under -112).

Murray is also one of the few quarterbacks that can rack up significant yards and touchdowns in the running game. His current rushing props on FanDuel are 475.5 (over/under -112) total rushing yards and 4.5 total rushing touchdowns (over -136/under+108).

The Arizona Cardinals enter the 2024 season with renewed optimism, largely centered around the health of quarterback Kyler Murray and a revamped offensive unit. After a challenging 2023 campaign marred by injuries, Murray is poised for a bounce-back year with a clean bill of health and a full offseason to gel with his new-look supporting cast.

Key upgrades along the offensive line, including the addition of Paris Johnson Jr. and Jonah Williams, promise to provide Murray with significantly improved protection. Meanwhile, the infusion of young talent, such as rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., a strong contender for Offensive Rookie of the Year, and running back Trey Benson, adds dynamic playmaking ability to the offense.

Career So Far

Murray burst onto the scene as a dual-threat star at the University of Oklahoma, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2018.

Drafted first overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft, Murray quickly established himself as a Pro Bowl talent. His ability to make plays both through the air and on the ground has made him one of the most exciting players in the league.

However, Murray’s career has also been marked by inconsistencies and injuries. While he has shown flashes of brilliance, he has struggled at times to maintain a high level of play.

While Murray’s passing statistics have been solid, his rushing ability sets him apart as a unique quarterback. His ability to extend plays and make big runs has added a new dimension to the Cardinals’ offense.

Murray threw for 3,722, 3,971, and 3,787 yards in his first three NFL seasons. His last two seasons he’s played 11 and eight games, and he has not eclipsed 2,500 passing yards in either season. Murray also threw for 20, 26, and 24 touchdowns in his first three NFL seasons.

On the ground, Murray rushed for 544 and 819 yards in his first two seasons (as well as four touchdowns and 11 touchdowns) but hasn’t gone for more than 423 yards on the ground since. If Murray is healthy all of next season it looks like he should fairly easily be able to go over his passing prop, but taking the under on his rushing yards prop seems like a decent bet.

Long Odds Props

While there’s no doubt that Kyler Murray is a dynamic and talented quarterback, but he is far from being the best NFL player. His chances of leading the league in passing yards or touchdowns this season are slim.

His odds to top the league in passing touchdowns are +3400. Similarly, his odds for leading the league in passing yards are +3200.

These long odds reflect the stiff competition at the quarterback position and the challenges Murray faced last season due to injury.

High Hopes for a Healthy Kyler Murray in 2024

The 2024 Kyler Murray Season Odds seem to expect a healthy season for Murray. He hasn’t played more than 11 games since 2021 and hasn’t hit his predicted passing numbers for this season since 2021 as well. If he is healthy he should easily reach 3,525.5 passing yards and throw for over 20.5 touchdowns.

Unfortunately, Murray hasn’t been able to stay on the field of late and that makes us nervous to take his over. One bet we feel good about is the under on his rushing yards for the season. Murray is older, has overcome multiple injuries, and will likely be changing his play to a slightly more conservative style in order to stay on the field. We like the under on his rushing prop.
