Most Regular Season Wins: Eagles Flying to Top of NFL

Which Team Can Catch Up to The Eagles?

Philadelphia Widely Favored Thanks To Lead

With an 11-1 record, the Philadelphia Eagles are heavily favored to finish with the best regular season this 2022 NFL season. This would mark the first time for the franchise since 2017, the year they won the Super Bowl. Of course, Philadelphia tied with three other teams as far as having the most regular season wins. Even if they are widely favored on the betting lines, a handful of teams have a legitimate shot at catching up to them.

Philadelphia’s Schedule Runs Through the NFC East

Naysayers will point to Philadelphia’s “cupcake” schedule as the main source of their league-leading 11 wins. But the remaining schedule does not favor them. Philadelphia’s remaining strength of schedule (SOS) is at .500, which is squarely in the middle of the top-nine teams on the odds board.

The Eagles still face the Cowboys, who are 9-3 and a distant 18-1 to finish with the most regular season wins. This is the first time they face each other this season with a healthy Dak Prescott. Then Philly also plays the Giants (7-4-1) twice with Chicago and New Orleans to round out their last five games.

The Cowboys are unlikely to finish with the best record and have an SOS just a bit harder than Philadelphia’s. They face Houston and Jacksonville but also take on Tennessee and Washington. You can’t rule them out since this team is 5-1 since Prescott returned. They could just catch up on the NFL regular season standings should they beat Philadelphia in a pivotal Week 16 tilt.

Minnesota, Kansas City, and Buffalo – Who Goes on a Run?

At 7-1, the Vikings (10-2), Chiefs (9-3), and Bills (9-3) are all tied as the distant runner-ups to win the most NFL regular season games. Of the three, Buffalo has the toughest schedule. Four of its remaining opponents are at .500 and above and three are division games, where two of Buffalo’s three losses have come from.

Miami (8-4) is also still in the running to win the most regular season wins but at 125-1, they are just one loss away from dropping out of the race entirely. The Dolphins handed the Bills their first loss of the season and have the second-hardest schedule of the nine teams on the board.

Minnesota and Kansas City have the two easiest remaining schedules. The Vikings SOS is at .397 with only the Giants as the winning team in their path. For KC, only the Seahawks (7-5) are above .500. However, for both teams, three of their last five games are division games. They are both 3-0 in division games. But Minnesota is just 1-2 against the spread (ATS) and KC is 0-3 thus they are by no means “easy” games.

Other Longshots: From San Francisco to Cincinnati

It’s a near-impossibility for the likes of San Francisco (8-4), Cincinnati (8-4), and Baltimore (8-4), to somehow finish with the best 2022 NFL regular season record. They all need to sweep their schedules, which won’t be possible for one of Cincinnati and Baltimore since they face each other in Week 18. But crazier things have happened.

Also, to make things more complicated, San Francisco (+7500) and Baltimore (+12500) are dealing with a quarterback conundrum. Jimmy Garoppolo and Lamar Jackson are injured, respectively. In San Fran’s case, “Mr. Irrelevant” Brock Purdy has already taken control of the team and looked decent in their win against the Dolphins. While Tyler Huntley is experienced for Baltimore, he is only 1-3 as a starter.

Bengals have the hardest SOS at .567. Four of their remaining five opponents are not only at .500 or better but were in the playoffs last season.

Cincinnati has no such issues at quarterback with Joe Burrow and the offense on fire. However, the Bengals have the hardest SOS at .567. Four of their remaining five opponents are not only at .500 or better but were in the playoffs last season. This includes Buffalo, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay. Even their “easiest” opponent is Cleveland, who is the last team to beat them.
