NFL Matchups Week 7 Odds: Chiefs-Niners the Showcase of Sunday’s Late Games

Super Bowl Contenders Kansas City and San Francisco Ready to Rumble

Can Surprising Jets Pick Up Fourth Consecutive Win?

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes (+500), Chargers QB Justin Herbert (+1400), Raiders quarterback Derek Carr (+4000) and Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith (+5000) are all in contention for the NFL regular season MVP award and will all be taking part in Sunday afternoon’s late games.

The best news for NFL fans is that there is no prime-time showcase for the Denver Broncos. Denver has been involved in some less than enthralling matchups on national TV. When looking at the NFL matchups and the Week 7 odds, the Broncos are slight favorites as they play in a non-primetime game.

Instead, the Broncos will be involved in one of the four late games being played Sunday afternoon.

There is no questioning which game is the headliner as Super Bowl contenders Kansas City and San Francisco will go head to head. The 49ers are tied for the third-best odds to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl while Kansas City trails only Buffalo in the odds to win the AFC championship.

The surprising New York Jets head to Denver, the Houston Texans meet the Las Vegas Raiders in one of two Week 7 matchups between teams with losing records and the Seattle Seahawks try to move over the .500 mark when they play at the Chargers.

Game of the Week

Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers

Date, time (TV): (CBS)
Line: Kansas City -3

With some of the games getting national television exposure, football fans deserve this Chiefs-49ers showdown.
It will be fun to watch the Patrick Mahomes-led offense for the Chiefs go up against a ferocious San Francisco defense. When looking at this week’s matchups and the Week 7 odds, it is clear that this is the  game to check out.

The 49ers allow the fewest number of yards in the NFL while Kansas City is fifth in the NFL in total offense.
Both teams are coming off losses with the 49ers falling to Atlanta and the Chiefs losing to Buffalo in another high-profile matchup.

Keep an eye on Kansas City receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster as he is coming off a season-high 113 receiving yards last week. San Francisco’s Deebo Samuel has just one game with more than 100 receiving yards so he is due to break out.

Kansas City has covered in just one of its last five games while San Francisco is 8-3 against the spread over the last 11 games.

Other Games to Watch

New York Jets vs Denver Broncos

Date, time (TV): (CBS)
Line: Denver -1

Another week and more reports of Denver quarterback Russell Wilson’s injury issues as he is considered questionable with a hamstring issue. Wilson told the media that the hamstring is feeling better. He doesn’t scramble as often as he did during his time with the Seahawks so even a tender hamstring shouldn’t impact Wilson too much if he is able to play.

When the Broncos made the huge trade to acquire Wilson, it is safe to say that they weren’t expecting him to rank 23rd in passing rating as the NFL season approaches the midway point.

The running game isn’t much better for the 2-4 Broncos. Javonte Williams is out for the season and Melvin Gordon was pretty much an afterthought in last week’s loss to the Chargers.

Things are much different for the 4-2 Jets, who are tied for the second-best record in the AFC.
With second-year quarterback Zach Wilson, rookie running back Breece Hall and rookie receiver Garrett Wilson leading the way, the future is bright with the Jets.

New York is coming over the Steelers, Dolphins and Packers and look to keep on rolling. The Jets have covered in five of their last six road games, but it has finished under in seven of the last eight trips to Denver. Denver has covered in just three of its last 10 games.

Houston Texans vs Las Vegas Raiders

Date, time (TV): (CBS)
Line: Las Vegas -7.5

Houston has shown some improvement on defense, allowing 99 points during a 1-3-1 start even if the Texans have surrendered more yards per game than any other team except the Detroit Lions. However, the Texans have scored the fewest points (86) among AFC teams. When looking at the NFL matchups and the Week 7 odds, this is certainly not one of the showcase contests.

With second-year quarterback Davis Mills and rookie running back Dameon Pierce, there are some building blocks in place in Houston.

For the 1-4 Raiders, the arrival of receiver Davante Adams hasn’t turned Las Vegas into a playoff contender.
Adams has come down with just 29 of 54 targets and too often quarterback Derek Carr locks in on his former college teammate. Running back Josh Jacobs has quietly become the No. 3 rusher in the NFL.

When looking at the NFL Week 7 injury report, tight end Darren Waller is questionable with a hamstring issue for Las Vegas. If he can play, that will make a huge difference in the passing game.

The defense is allowing 26 points per game for the Raiders and the offense isn’t good enough to overcome those defensive lapses.

The NFL betting lines total has gone over in four of the last five games between the Texans and Raiders.

Seattle Seahawks vs Los Angeles Chargers

Date, time (TV): (CBS)
Line: Chargers -6

Rounding out the best of NFL matchups week 7 odds:

  • Who thought Seattle’s Geno Smith would go into this matchup with a better passing rating than Justin Herbert of the Chargers?
  • Smith isn’t being asked to win games by himself, but he is completing 73% of his passes and has just two interceptions.
  • Herbert is fourth in the NFL with 1,716 passing yards despite not having star receiver Keenan Allen for much of the season.
  • Rookie cornerback Tariq Woolen has been a revelation for the Seahawks with interceptions in each of the last four games. Khalil Mack, a key offseason acquisition by the Chargers, is tied for second in the NFL with six sacks.
  • Seattle has covered in four of the last six games with the Chargers. Meanwhile, the Chargers are 4-2 against the spread over the last six games.
