NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds

Pickett, London Top Candidates to Win Award

First-Round Picks Head Odds

With the NFL Draft all wrapped up, it hasn’t taken much time for the NFL predictions to start coming out for the top rookies in the upcoming season.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the five players with the best odds to be named the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year were first-round selections.

The first offensive player selected in the draft was offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu at No. 6 overall. However, offensive linemen have about as much of a chance to win this award as a kicker, so that leaves the competition to the quarterbacks, running backs, receivers and tight ends when handicapping the top offensive players coming out of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Here’s a breakdown of the top candidates for the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Big Things Expected from Pickett

It wasn’t the greatest year for quarterbacks being selected in the NFL Draft.

Former Pittsburgh star Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback taken in the first round. He knows his surroundings pretty well after  being taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Following the retirement of longtime starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers will have a new starter under center for the first time in nearly two decades.

Former top-five pick Mitch Trubisky signed with the Steelers after spending the 2021 season as the backup in Buffalo.

Considering that Pickett is tied for the best odds to be named the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, there are expectations for him to take over as the starting quarterback spot at some point as a rookie.

After Pickett (+650), the quarterback with the next best odds according to the sportsbook is Malik Willis of the Tennessee Titans at +1200. Desmond Ridder (+1600), Matt Corral (+2200) and Sam Howell (+4000) are other rookie quarterbacks with a chance to see time in 2022.

Top Receivers Looking to Catch on

Nobody is expected to have a season like the one reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Ja’Marr Chase enjoyed in helping the Cincinnati Bengals advance to the Super Bowl. However, receivers are popular picks in 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds.

When looking at the top NFL draft players, seven of the 11 with the best odds for offensive rookie of the year are receivers according to the NFL betting lines.

Southern California’s Drake London was the first receiver off the board and he is tied with Pickett at +650 as having the best chance to win the award. There isn’t too much competition for London to emerge as the No. 1 receiver for the Atlanta Falcons.

Treylon Burks, Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson are also among the top candidates.

Burks was taken with the pick the Tennessee Titans got by trading A.J. Brown to Philadelphia while Wilson went to the New York Jets with the 10th overall selection. Olave, a teammate of Wilson’s at Ohio State, landed in New Orleans with the 11th pick.

Second-rounder Christian Watson has better odds than two receivers taken ahead of him. That has something to do with catching passes from reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers and the fact that Green Bay’s all-everything receiver Davante Adams was dealt to the Vegas Raiders in the offseason.

Jameson Williams (+1100), Skyy Moore (+1200) and Jahan Dotson (+1800) are other receivers who could emerge as strong rookie of the year candidates.

One of the most interesting numbers might be Kansas City Chiefs undrafted free agent Justyn Ross coming in at +6000. That puts him ahead of second-day draft picks Wan’Dale Robinson and Alec Pierce.

Ready to Hit Ground Running

No running backs were selected in the first round, however that doesn’t mean that won’t be in the running to be the rookie of the year.

The New York Jets traded up to pick up former Iowa State star Breece Hall and at +900, he is tied for the sixth-best odds to be named the top offensive rookie in the NFL.

Hall will be competing with second-year back Michael Carter for carries in what is expected to be an improved Jets offense.

Not far behind Hall is the new Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker.

Nobody is quite sure what the Seattle offense will look like now that quarterback Russell Wilson is now a member of the Denver Broncos, but it won’t be surprising to see the Seahawks run even more frequently than in past years. Chris Carson is a talented back. He does come with a buyer-beware label considering that he has missed 17 games over the last two seasons.

James Cook (+1200) and Isaiah Spiller (+3300) are among the other running backs to keep an eye on among the top NFL Draft players.

It should be noted that one of the most productive rookie running backs a season ago was sixth-rounder Elijah Mitchell, so it can be hard to predict which rookies will make an impact at the position.

Little Expected from Rookie Tight Ends

Unlike a year ago when high first-round pick Kyle Pitts was one of the favorites to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honor, tight ends are almost afterthoughts among the 2022 NFL Draft top players.

Trey McBride (+3500) has the best odds. With star receiver DeAndre Hopkins suspended for the first six games of the season and Christian Kirk gone in free agency, perhaps there will be opportunities for McBride in the Arizona passing game.

No other tight end has better odds than +10000.
