2022 NFL Week 8 Betting Preview: Title Contending Niners & Rams

Surprising Giants and Seattle Seahawks Will Be Squaring Off in Intriguing Showdown

All Four of Sunday’s Late Games Could Come Down to Bitter End

When breaking down the NFL Week 8 betting preview, three teams that made the NFL playoffs last season, including the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams will be in action in Sunday’s late afternoon games.

The Rams will square off against division rival San Francisco in a matchup of teams looking to get going after sluggish starts to the season.

Tennessee is looking to add to its lead in the AFC South. The Washington-Indianapolis matchup will be a showdown of reserve quarterbacks while both the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks look to continue their surprising play.

All four late games have point spreads of three points or less.

When looking at the NFL odds, Tennessee (+2200) is seventh in the odds to win the AFC title. In the NFC, San Francisco (+600) is tied for second. The Rams (+1000) and Giants (+2000) aren’t far behind.

Tennessee Titans vs Houston Texans

Line: Tennessee -2

Tennessee has received little attention despite leading the AFC South with a 4-2 record. It is interesting that when looking at the NFL Week 8 betting preview, the Titans are favored by just two points per the NFL point spreads week 8 against the one-win Texans.

Ryan Tannehill is completing 65% of his passes while Derrick Henry is starting to get going with three straight 100-yard games.

Second-year quarterback Davis Mills and rookie runner Dameon Pierce lead the 1-4-1 Texans who lost their first three games by a combined total of 20 points.

Tennessee is 26th and Houston 31st in total defense, so perhaps this will be a showcase for the two offenses.
Tennessee has won four of the last five meetings against Houston with four of those contests finishing over the total. However, the Texans have covered in each of the last three games.

Washington Commanders vs Indianapolis Colts

Those clamoring for a Taylor Heinecke and Sam Ehlinger quarterback matchup should be rather fired up.
A healthy Carson Wentz would be the headliner in this game after he spent the 2021 season with Indianapolis.

However, with Wentz sidelined, Washington (3-4) has gone back to Heinecke.

Heineke quarterbacked Washington to a 23-21 upset of Green Bay. The 3-3-1 Colts made the surprising decision that veteran QB Matt Ryan is being benched for the rest of the season in favor of Ehlinger. Ehlinger appeared in three games last season, but did not attempt a pass.

He figures to be handing off to Jonathan Taylor early and often while the tandem of Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson will lead the Washington offense.

One thing to consider when looking at the NFL Week 8 betting preview, the Colts have won the last four matchups with Washington after the Commanders won four of the previous five contests. Eight of the last 10 games finished over the total.

San Francisco 49ers vs Los Angeles Rams

Date & Time & Streaming:
Line: Seattle San Francisco -1.5

With a game under his belt following his trade from Carolina, don’t be surprised to see running back Christian McCaffrey having larger role in what might be the best game of the week on the NFL Week 8 schedule.

The 3-3 Rams are coming off a bye week, so it will be interesting to see how things look moving forward for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Trying to get the offense going against a 3-4 San Francisco team that is allowing the third fewest yards in the NFL will be no easy task.

Five of the last six games between the NFC West division rivals finished under the total.

The 49ers have won seven of the last eight games against the Rams.

New York Giants vs Seattle Seahawks

Date & Time & Streaming:
Line: Seattle -3

Two of the biggest surprises in the NFC will be squaring off.

Nobody was expecting the Giants to be sitting at 6-1 heading into Week 8 while Seattle is quietly sitting at 4-3.

This game will feature a pair of reclamation projects at the quarterback position.

Daniel Jones was known more for his turnovers with the Giants before Brian Daboll was hired as the head coach. Jones is completing a career-best 66.7% of his passes and has thrown just two interceptions in the first seven games despite a large number of injuries at the receiver position. He has also run for more than 300 yards.

There were those who scoffed at the notion that Geno Smith would be replacing Russell Wilson as the Seattle quarterback. Well, only Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City and Buffalo’s Josh Allen have better passing efficiency numbers than Smith. Smith has thrown one interception over the last four games.

The teams have played just once in the previous four seasons with the Giants winning 17-12 as an 11-point underdog in 2020. That snapped a four-game losing streak to the Seahawks.
