NFL: Who Will Be The Last Team Standing to Start 2024?
Countdown to Hall of Fame Game: Top Prop Bets to Watch

One of the most fun prop bets to jump on to start the regular season is who will be the last NFL team to lose in 2024? NFL betting odds favor the Detroit Lions (+700) to cash this prop but the Kansas City Chiefs (+800) and San Francisco 49ers (+800) will have something to say about that.
In 2023, the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers were the last teams to lose with 5-0 records, but history tells us that week seven is typically the week where we have one team standing. You may want to divide your winner of this prop and your Super Bowl NFL futures prop bet because the last time the last team standing took home the Lombardi Trophy was in 2006 when the Indianapolis Colts did it.
- Only 19 times since 1933 has the winner of this prop gone on to win a championship that’s 90 years if you’re scoring at home. Let’s analyze a few teams that could be the last NFL team to lose in 2024.
Long-Shot Saints Worth a Look
The Saints open the season with a gauntlet of a schedule but when looking for a long-shot winner New Orleans could surprise. Many have forgotten that the New Orleans Saints finished above .500 with NFL records of 9-8, not good enough to make the postseason but with their schedule, Dennis Allen’s team is worth a few bucks, especially with a generous payout of +6600.
Overall, New Orleans owns the easiest schedule with an opponent record of 131-158 (.453) based on last year’s results, tied with the Atlanta Falcons. Now we are more than aware that the easier part of their schedule is on the backend with games against the Dallas Cowboys (12-5), Philadelphia Eagles (11-6), and Kansas City Chiefs (11-6) in three of their first five weeks. We’d rather have a good team on a ticket than cross our fingers with the Falcons.
The Saints haven’t played Dallas since 2021 but did play the Eagles last year in Philly, handing the Eagles a 20-10 loss at Lincoln Financial Field. The Saints last played the Chiefs in 2020, outsourcing them 20-18 in the second half in a 3-point loss (32-29). We get to see a new Saints offense with OC Pete Carmichael Jr out and Klint Kubiak in (San Francisco). With Kubiak known as a zone rushing coach, Saints fans should be excited to see an improved running game.
Let’s Get Serious
- The Detroit Lions (12-5) should be coming into the season with a massive chip on their shoulder after dropping the NFC Championship game to the San Francisco 49ers (34-31) after holding a 24-7 lead at the half. The Lions (+700) are the odds-on favorite to be the last NFL team to lose.
After winning 13 of their last 18 games last season and five of their first six games, the Lions are in a prime position to give bettors a better-than-average shot at cashing this ticket. Detroit starts the season with two home games against the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before heading to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. The Lions knocked the Rams and the Buccaneers out of the postseason last year (24-23 and 31-23).
This season will feature a massive revenge spot against the Dallas Cowboys in week five after the Lions dropped a 20-19 game at Dallas last season, a game that ended in controversy. Dan Campbell’s team will play three of their first four games at Ford Field, giving bettors solid ground to stand on if they choose to bet on Detroit.
Dolphins are the Best AFC Option
Like the Detroit Lions, the Miami Dolphins (+900) won five of their first six games last season and are a reasonable choice to make a run at cashing to this prop. Mike McDaniel’s team will be in a revenge spot against their first four opponents, starting with the Buffalo Bills in week two after dropping a 21-14 game last January after taking a 14-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
Miami was ranked number one in yards per game and number two in points per game last year, in addition to ranking high in several other offensive categories. Let’s see if the addition of Odell Beckham Jr, makes that explosive offense even better than what it has done over the last two seasons.
The question for bettors throughout the season will be if Miami can go toe-to-toe against the better NFL teams in the AFC, but with their speed, you can never count them out of a game making them an attractive option to cash our prop bet.
