Patriots Schedule Layout
The Patriots’ first NFL matchup against an AFC East opponent will be a Thursday Night Football game against the New York Jets on September 19. This will be the sixth Thursday night clash between these rivals, with the Patriots holding a 4-1 record, including a 27-25 win at Gillette Stadium on October 16, 2014.
In addition to their divisional games, the Patriots will face each team from the AFC South and NFC West. As the fourth-place team in the AFC East in 2023, they will also play the fourth-place teams from the AFC West (Los Angeles Chargers), AFC North (Cincinnati Bengals), and NFC North (Chicago Bears).
The Patriots’ schedule includes seven games against 2023 playoff teams: Buffalo and Miami twice each, Houston, the Los Angeles Rams, and the San Francisco 49ers.
They will also play four teams with winning records in 2023 that missed the NFL playoffs: Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, and Seattle.
The team will have three sets of back-to-back road games: at the Jets (September 19) and San Francisco (September 29), at Tennessee (November 3) and Chicago (November 10), and at Arizona (December 15) and Buffalo (December 22).
The season opener is set for September 8 at Cincinnati, with a 1 p.m. ET kickoff. This will be the Patriots’ fourth time starting the season against the Bengals, the last being a 38-24 win at Gillette Stadium in 2010. Their only other season opener at Cincinnati was in 2001, resulting in a 23-17 Bengals victory.
Head coach Jerod Mayo will lead his first regular-season home game at Gillette Stadium in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks on September 15.
The Patriots will then embark on two consecutive road games: against the Jets on Thursday night and the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers on September 29, marking their second visit to Levi’s Stadium where they won 30-17 in 2016.
October begins with home games against Miami on October 6 and Houston on October 13, followed by their London game against the Jaguars on October 20. The month concludes with a home game against the Jets on October 27.
November features back-to-back road games at Tennessee on November 3 and Chicago on November 10. The Patriots will host the L.A. Rams on November 17 before traveling to Miami on November 24 to end the month.
December kicks off with a home game against Indianapolis on December 1, marking the fourth consecutive year the two NFL teams have met in the regular season. The Patriots’ final road games will be at Arizona on December 15 and at Buffalo on December 22.
The regular season will wrap up with home games against the Los Angeles Chargers and Buffalo, with dates and times to be determined later in the season. This marks the first time since 2020 that the Patriots will finish the season with two home games.

Overview of the New England Patriots 2023 Season
The 2023 season marked the New England Patriots’ 54th year in the NFL, their 64th overall, and their 22nd season at Gillette Stadium. It was also the 24th and final season under head coach Bill Belichick.
The Patriots began the season with a 1–5 record, a start they hadn’t seen since 1995. After a Week 12 loss to the New York Giants, they failed to improve upon their 8–9 record from 2022, resulting in back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 1992–1993.
The Patriots missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year and the third time in four seasons, after the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Colts in Week 14. By Week 17, following a loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots ended the season at the bottom of the AFC East for the first time since 2000, finishing with a 4–13 record—Belichick’s worst season as a head coach and the team’s poorest performance since 1992.
This season also stood out for the absence of safety Devin McCourty, who retired on March 10, 2023, marking the first time since 2009 that he was not on the roster. At the season’s conclusion, Bill Belichick and the Patriots mutually decided to part ways on January 11, 2024.
