Sunday Night Football Betting Odds: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens

Ravens Small Favorites in Expected Low-Scoring Game

The Baltimore Ravens have been hoping to get quarterback Lamar Jackson back the past couple of weeks. But after he missed Thursday’s practice, it’s looking doubtful that he’ll return this week. That’s reflected in the Steelers vs Ravens betting odds for both the side and the total.

Game Information

Pittsburgh Steelers(7-8) vs Baltimore Ravens(10-5)

Date & Time & Streaming:
Location: M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore, Maryland)
Streaming: NBC

The Steelers vs Ravens betting odds opened with Baltimore -6.5 on the presumption that Lamar Jackson was going to be play. As it’s looking less likely he’ll play, the line has dropped to Ravens-2.5.

The Steelers vs Ravens betting odds on the total saw a huge move. The number opened at 42 and the total is now down to 35. The weather isn’t expected to be too bad in Baltimore Sunday night, so the drop on the total is more a reflection on Jackson landing on the Week 17 NFL injury report than it is for predictions of adverse weather.

The Steelers vs Ravens betting odds on the moneyline saw Baltimore open -280 and that number has moved down to Ravens -145. That move is expected considering the point spread drop.

Pittsburgh was written off for the playoffs a month ago but the Steelers have won four of their last five to give themselves a chance. The one loss in that time was a 16-14 home loss to these same Ravens. In that one, Baltimore was favored by 1.5 points, so the spread here is cheap. Mitch Trubisky threw three interceptions in that game for Pittsburgh and he’s been replaced by Kenny Pickett. The Steelers outgained the Ravens 329-309 but the Pittsburgh defense couldn’t force a turnover.

The Steelers have to do a better job of stopping the run. The Ravens ran for more than 200 yards with J.K. Dobbins rushing for 120. Pittsburgh held the Ravens to 94 passing yards. Pittsburgh couldn’t move the ball on the ground, with Pickett having the team’s only run for more than 8 yards. Chris Boswell missed his only field goal attempt, so it was a game the Steelers could have won.

Ravens logoBaltimore Ravens Doing Enough to Win

The Ravens have won three of their last four, losing to Cleveland and beating Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Denver. It’s been the defense that has carried the NFL team. The Ravens haven’t scored more than 17 points in any of their last four games and the three victories have been by a combined 11 points. Baltimore is doing just enough to get the win but little more. Tyler Huntley simply hasn’t played well for the Ravens, who are likely going to try and run the ball at Pittsburgh once again. The Ravens have run for 184 or more yards in each of their last three games.

Defensively, the Ravens will need to contain Pickett, who has 234 rushing yards and has been more of a threat on the ground than through the air. Baltimore has allowed teams to move the ball a little bit but have kept them from putting too many points on the scoreboard, which is the main reason they’re locked into the playoffs right now.

Can Steelers Keep it Close?

The Steelers vs Ravens betting odds suggest a close game and this one has all the markings of a fairly tight contest. The point spread is low, but two of Baltimore’s last three wins have been by one or two points, so it’s not out of the question for the spread to come into play in this one.

“The Steelers are still fighting for the playoffs, so you know you’ll play hard. But the Ravens are just one game behind Cincinnati and have a chance to win the division. So even though the playoffs are secured, the Ravens still have plenty to play for.”

The best method to play this one for your SNF betting could be to take the Steelers in a teaser and push the number up to 8.5. Any time you can get more than a touchdown in an NFL game with such a low total, you have to like your chances. This one looks like it should be another fairly low-scoring game that is decided by a touchdown or less.
