Super Bowl National Anthem Odds: Does the Star-Spangled Under Yet Wave?
Anthem Projected to Go Over as Recent History Suggests

National Anthem Odds at Just Over Two Minutes
Just before we kick off Super Bowl LVII, we have to settle one critical bet here: the length of the National Anthem. Indeed, the length of the Star-Spangled Banner has been a staple in Super Bowl betting and this year is no different.
Presently, the Super Bowl National Anthem odds have it at a lengthy 125 seconds (two minutes and five seconds). Of course, bettors have quickly steamed the lines for it to go over and it will be up to Chris Stapleton to decide which is the winning side.
Who is Chris Stapleton?
Stapleton will be front and center not only to sing the anthem but to decide one of the most popular NFL prop bets. The man of the hour (or two minutes, more specifically) is an American country singer, songwriter, and record producer.
On top of writing over 170 songs and selling millions of records, he’s won several awards including eight Grammy Awards and 10 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards.
As far as how he’s going to sing, the books expect him to sing over the two-minute mark, at least. That’s how Anthem singers have trended in recent years. The length of the Anthem went over two minutes in seven of the last 10 Super Bowls.
The totals went over in six of these times per the Super Bowl National Anthem odds.
Stapleton is not going to belt long notes like Christina Aguilera in 2011 nor is he going to go as long as Alicia Keys did with her piano rendition in 2015 (which still went over the total despite being at 2:15). The popular country singer has not had any notable renditions of the National Anthem available on the Internet.
But checking some of his covers, he sang Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters quite long: eight minutes and 14 seconds. Of course, this includes a guitar solo in the second half so his time without it is at 4:52. Still, Anthem singers take their time so as to not forget any lyrics and Stapleton could just milk the clock on this.
National Anthems in Recent History
We discussed Aguilera and Keys with the Anthem. Aguilera actually went under in the total thanks to flubbing on a few words. Her official time clocked in at 1:53, which is one second from the books’ time of 1:54. That’s a bad beat for those who wagered on the over. Keys’s time of 2:36 is the longest since 2007 and went a whopping 21 seconds over the 2:15 set by the Super Bowl National Anthem odds.
Keys’ long rendition prompted books to set the next five Anthem odds at two minutes or longer. Thus, three of the next five singers went under their totals: Renee Fleming in 2014, Luke Bryan in 2017, and Pink in 2018. Bryan is a country singer like Stapleton.
Mickey Guyton sang last year’s anthem and easily went over her rather brief total of 1:35. The singer then took to Instagram to congratulate Stapleton on his selection and offered a brief tip:
“You was made for this moment and I can’t wait to watch,”
“Enjoy every minute and don’t forget to breathe.” Mickey Guyton wrote on Stapleton’s Instagram.
So Will it Be Over or Under?
As the current Super Bowl bets have it, the anthem will go over. That has been the case in three of the last four National Anthems during this event. Stapleton’s time of 2:05 is also the longest total since Bryan in 2017 and the fourth longest total in the last 16 anthems.
And out of those 16, only four times has the singer cracked the 2:05 mark: Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church in 2021 (2:17), Alicia Keys in 2013 (2:36), Lady Gaga in 2016 (2:22), and Jennifer Hudson (2:10) in 2009.
If Stapleton does go over that mark, he will be the first solo male singer to do it since Harry Connick Jr. did it way back in 1992.
