Travis Kelce has been one of the best players in the NFL for several years now. But this season has seen him become one of its most popular. Being romantically involved with Taylor Swift will do that for you. But Kelce is more than just “Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.” He’s the best tight end in the NFL and the Travis Kelce stats will back that up. But Kelce is also developing a reputation for being a big-time NFL player when it really counts – the playoffs.

Through 21 career playoff games, the Travis Kelce stats show 156 receptions for 1,810 yards and 19 touchdowns. Almost all of Kelce’s stats are better in the postseason than in the regular season. Receptions per game, receiving yards per game and receiving yards per target are all higher in the NFL playoffs.

He’s No. 2 all-time in postseason receiving yards. But despite everything Kelce has already done in the playoffs, the 2023 postseason could be one of his best yet.

Career Bests Possible With Big Super Bowl

Kelce will enter the Super Bowl needing eight receptions, 98 receiving yards and one touchdown to match his career postseason highs. It’s certainly not out of the question. But it also isn’t going to be easy against the San Francisco defense. Still, the Super Bowl predictions are calling for another solid game for Kelce.

So far in the playoffs, Kelce has 23 receptions for 262 yards and three touchdowns. But those touchdowns have come at key times for Kansas City. It’s not as though he’s scoring touchdowns in a 45-10 victory. The NFL scores show the Chiefs have won the two games he scored touchdowns in by three and by seven points.

2023 Clutch Playoff Performer

Kelce began the 2023 playoffs against the Miami Dolphins in the frigid weather. He ended up with seven receptions for 71 yards as he and Rashee Rice handled nearly all the receiving duties for the Chiefs.

On the road in Buffalo, the Travis Kelce stats were huge. He had five receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns in Kansas City’s 27-24 victory.

Against Baltimore in the AFC title game, Kelce had 11 receptions on 11 targets. He scored once and had 116 receiving yards to help the Chiefs get back to the Super Bowl.

Kelce will do his best to set some new postseason highs in the Super Bowl against the 49ers. But regardless of how many catches he has, Kelce will be responsible for quite a few Taylor Swift-related proposition bets for those who like to bet online.

Kelce Coming off Career Highs With 110 Catches and 152 Targets in 2022

As hard as it is to believe, in his first season in the NFL, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce played in just one game and had no receptions. It didn’t take long for the Travis Kelce career stats to start piling up.

That has certainly changed with 67, 72, 85, 83, 103, 97, 105, 92 and 110 receptions in the last nine seasons. The 110 catches tied the single-season NFL record for a tight end.

Projections have Kelce with another 100-catch season while topping 1,200 receiving yards and when looking at the Travis Kelce career stats, that sort of season would move him past some current and future Hall of Fame pass catchers.

There are plenty of milestones for Kelce to pursue as well and with that will come individual recognition.

According to the NFL betting odds, Kelce (+2000) is tied for 15th in the NFL Offensive Player of the Year odds.

He is tied for ninth (first among tight ends) in the odds to lead the NFL in receiving yards.

Here’s a look at what could be in store for one of the best tight ends in NFL history.

Moving On Up

Kelce moved into the top 50 in career regular-season receiving yards with Hall of Famers Lance Alworth and Shannon Sharpe among the players he passed during the 2022 season when he finished eighth in the NFL with 110 catches for the Super Bowl champions.

Another 1,000 season would move him into the top 40.

When looking at Travis Kelce’s career stats, with 10,344 receiving yards, he still has some work to catch the tight ends ahead of him.

Tony Gonzalez, who spent 12 of his 17 seasons with the Chiefs, is sixth overall and first among tight ends with 15,127 yards. Former Dallas Cowboys great Jason Witten finished with 13,046 yards with Antonio Gates of the Chargers ending up with 11,841 yards.

Thriving on the Big Stage

The list of players in NFL history with more receiving yards in the playoffs than Kelce is a pretty short one.

Jerry Rice set the record of 2,245 yards from 1985-2004. With 257 receiving yards during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run last season, he moved ahead of Michael Irvin, Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman to take over the No. 2 spot with 1,548 yards.

Kelce would have to average 257 yards for three more playoff seasons to catch Rice.

Gift of Grab

Kelce is currently tied with Keyshawn Johnson and Henry Ellard for 34th on the NFL’s career list for catches during the regular season. Kelce is sitting at 814 catches heading into his 11th NFL season.

When it comes to Travis Kelce’s career stats, there is a chance he could move into the top 25 with another 100-catch season and that is something he has accomplished in three of the last five seasons.

Julio Jones and DeAndre Hopkins are the only active players ahead of him and both of them are currently free agents.

Kelce needs 141 catches to catch Antonio Gates for third on the list of receptions by tight ends. When it comes to the postseason, once again, only Rice is ahead of Kelce. Rice has 151 career postseason catches with Kelce coming in next at 133.

Counting the regular season and playoffs, Kelce is 35 catches shy of 1,000 and that would place him in pretty select company.

A Look Ahead

The Chiefs are currently favored at +650 to win the Super Bowl (preseason odds) for the second year in a row. Don’t be surprised when looking at the NFL standings to see Kansas City win the AFC West Division title for the eighth season in a row.

There will be plenty of chances for Kelce to be on the receiving end of passes from NFL Most Valuable Player Patrick Mahomes. The schedule could help Kelce have another monster season.

The season begins with a Thursday night game against the Detroit Lions, a team that allowed the third-most receiving yards per game during the 2022 season

There is a Week 5 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, one of the two teams to surrender more passing yards per game than the Lions. Kelce could also have two games against the Las Vegas Raiders (29th in passing defense) as well as one each against Jacksonville and Miami, teams that were 28th and 27th out of 32 teams in passing defense.

The Chiefs also lost Juju Smith-Schuster, the team leader among wide receivers with 78 receptions last season.

Mahomes has proven that he can put up impressive stats without dynamic players at the outside receiving positions as long as he has the sure-handed Kelce to throw the ball to.

Kelce is signed through the 2026 season with Mahomes under contract through 2032 so there should be plenty of Mahomes to Kelce connections in the coming years.
