USFL Week 3 Betting Preview: Stallions Favored Over Breakers

New Jersey at Michigan Gets Top Billing

The USFL Week 3 betting preview shows the sportsbooks were quick to react to Week 2’s increase in scoring. After seeing totals of 36.5 and 39 in Week 2, the lowest totals for Week are at 43.5. There are several solid games on tap this week. Birmingham and New Orleans meet in the lone battle of 2-0 teams. But the best game may be New Jersey and Michigan on Sunday.

The Stallions have been the most impressive team in the league through two games. Birmingham beat a good New Jersey team 27-10 in Week 1 and absolutely thumped Memphis last week. Quarterback Alex McGough is leading the USFL player stats with five TD passes. Not bad for a backup quarterback.

Memphis and Pittsburgh have been the two worst teams through two weeks. Houston isn’t too far behind, although the Gamblers showed some life last week. But Houston still failed to the cover the spread.

New Orleans Breakers vs Birmingham Stallions

Date, time:
Location: Protective Stadium (Birmingham, Alabama)
Stream: USA

The USFL Week 3 betting preview shows Birmingham favored by 6 with a total of 48. While the Stallions have played great, the Breakers have been winning ugly.

New Orleans has seven-point wins over Pittsburgh and Houston. Both teams are still looking for their first win of the season. The Breakers beat Houston 38-31 last week thanks to a 3-0 turnover advantage. The total yards were pretty even. But the Gamblers were unable to overcome the interceptions.

Birmingham is going to be a bit of a public play this week. But there’s no reason to go against them here. New Orleans QB Bethel McLeod-Thompson leads the USFL in passing yards but Birmingham is the better team. Take the Stallions in this one.

Memphis Showboats vs Houston Gamblers

Date, time:
Location: Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium (Memphis, Tennessee)
Stream: FOX

Hide the women and children for this one. It’s going to be ugly. The USFL betting odds have this one even with a total of 43.5. Both teams are still looking for their first win of the season. Memphis has been outscored 69-25 this season.

The Gamblers have scored 44 points and allowed 67. Houston did an admirable job keeping the score as close as it did last week. Whenever you’re -3 in turnovers, you expect a double-digit loss. But that’s about the only good thing you can say about the Gamblers.

Memphis is at home for this one and has played better teams. The Showboats are probably the correct side in this one.

Sunday, April 30

Pittsburgh Maulers vs Philadelphia Stars

Date, time:
Location: Ford Field (Detroit, Michigan)
Stream: Peacock

The Stars are favored by 6.5 points here with a total of 43.5. The Maulers have been dismal through two games. Pittsburgh has mustered just 18 points through two games.

The defense hasn’t been bad, allowing just 42 points in two games. Both teams have played fairly tough schedules, so no real advantage there. The Stars made four turnovers last week against Michigan.

You can’t do that against any team, let alone a strong team like the Panthers. The total could be a bit on the high side in this one and believe the under is probably the way to go.

New Jersey Generals vs Michigan Panthers

Date, time:
Location: Ford Field (Detroit, Michigan)
Stream: FOX

The USFL Week 3 betting preview shows the Panthers are 4.5-point favorites in arguably the best game of the week. The total is 44.5 in this home game for Michigan. New Jersey bounced back after its opening loss to Birmingham.

The Panthers moved to 2-0 on the season by defeating Philadelphia last week. Michigan has forced eight turnovers through two weeks and that’s unlikely to continue.

The Generals have made three turnovers in two games. New Jersey is going to do what it does best and that’s run the football.

The Panthers have been decent against the run. But they haven’t faced a team that will stay with the run like New Jersey. The Generals are still one of the top teams in the league and are the right side in this one.
