USFL Week 9 Odds: Stallions Favored Over Houston in Game of Week

First Place in South Division on the Line

The USFL Week 9 odds have the Birmingham Stallions favored by 4 points over the Houston Gamblers in the week’s best matchup. The Stallions have the best record in the league at 6-2. Houston is one of three teams in the South a game back at 5-3. The other two 5-3 teams are playing each other, so the standings will go one of two ways.

If Birmingham wins, the Stallions will have a one-game lead over the winner of the New Orleans vs Memphis game. The other two teams will be two games behind Birmingham. If Houston is able to pull off the small upset, there will be a three-way tie between three teams at 6-3. The loser of the New Orleans game will be one game behind in the standings.

No matter how you look at it, the USFL schedule this week is a strong one. There’s plenty on the line and a few good games on tap.

Saturday, June 10

Michigan Panthers vs Pittsburgh Maulers

Date, time:
Location: Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium (Canton, Ohio)
Streaming: FOX

While there are several strong games on the USFL schedule this week, this isn’t one of them. The USFL Week 9 odds have Michigan (3-5) favored by 1.5 over Pittsburgh (2-6). The total on the game is 41.5. Both teams are coming into this one off tough losses. The Maulers lost to Houston 20-19 last week in a game Pittsburgh outplayed Houston. Pittsburgh had a 39:47 to 20:13 edge in time of possession and outgained Houston 326-266. But two fourth-quarter touchdowns by Houston and a missed field goal by Pittsburgh led to the Gamblers win.

Michigan was on the losing end of a 24-20 decision to New Orleans. The Panthers were 0 for 2 inside the red zone and were unable to capitalize on several Breakers’ turnovers in the game. Both teams are in dire need of a win and think the Maulers can bounce back in this one.

New Orleans Breakers vs Memphis Showboats

Date, time:
Location: Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium (Memphis, Tennessee)
Streaming: Peacock

The USFL odds have this one even with a total of 42.5. Both teams are 5-3 and will be watching Sunday’s Birmingham vs Houston game. The two teams are pretty evenly matched. New Orleans has a scoring margin of +18 on the season and Memphis is +12. The Breakers see a few more points in their games, as they’re better offensively but worse defensively than Memphis. The biggest difference between the two teams right now is momentum. Memphis is the hottest team in the USFL with five straight victories.

When the teams played in Week 5, Memphis came away with a 17-10 victory. The score was indicative of how the game played out. Both teams had fewer than 250 total yards of offense and Memphis had two turnovers. Memphis had three in the game. You have to expect a few more points in this one, so the over is probably the way to go.

Sunday, June 11

Birmingham Stallions vs Houston Gamblers

Date, time:
Location: Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium (Memphis, Tennessee)
Streaming: Peacock

This is easily the top game this week and one of the more meaningful games so far this season. The total is the highest of any game this week at 45.5. The teams played in Week 5 and the Gamblers won 27-20 in what was a pretty entertaining game. Birmingham comes into this one off a last-minute victory against Philadelphia. The Stallions scored the winning touchdown with 28 seconds remaining.

Birmingham is probably the best team in the USFL at this stage, but not so sure laying four points on a neutral field is the way to go in this one. The Gamblers can put up points, sitting at No. 2 in the league in scoring, trailing only the Stallions. With the top two scoring offenses facing off, the over looks like the best bet in this one.

Philadelphia Stars vs New Jersey Generals

Date, time:
Location: Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium (Canton, Ohio)
Streaming: FOX

The USFL Week 9 odds have Philadelphia (4-4) favored by 2 points over New Jersey (2-6) with a total of 44. Just when you think it can’t get any worse for New Jersey, it does. The Generals lost their fifth straight game last week. But they’ve only been outscored by 11 points this season, so they’re not getting blown out. But they are finding ways to lose. Three turnovers against Memphis last week didn’t help in the team’s 25-16 loss.

The Stars are just 4-4 but lead the North Division. The four teams with winning records all play in the South. That’s good news for the North Division teams, who are all in the playoff hunt. New Jersey or Pittsburgh would pretty much be out of it if in the South. Philadelphia has won the first two meetings, but it’s hard to say they’re a better team than the Generals. New Jersey should get a decent look in what is basically a must-win game.
