NHL: Boston Bruins vs Edmonton Oilers Odds Preview
Tonight’s Match-Up Features Two Teams That Could be On a Collision Course for The Stanley CupÂ

The Boston Bruins (33-12-11, 77 points) have regained the lead in the Atlantic Division after a much-needed shootout win over the Dallas Stars, 4-3, Monday. It was the first win for the B’s in four games and just their second since a message-sending 4-0 win against Vancouver two weeks ago (1-2-2 since).
The Bruins are ranked sixth in our latest power ratings. The Edmonton Oilers (33-18-1, 67 points) are our top team despite sitting in third place in the Pacific Division. They’ll have plenty of chances to make up ground with three games in hand on the second-place Vegas Golden Knights (3 points behind) and five over the Vancouver Canucks (13 points behind).
Current NHL odds show the Oilers as a -140 home favorite after opening at -135. The total is 6.5 (under -120) after opening 6.5 (under -115). Puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT and can be seen on TNT and HBO Max. We start our Bruins vs Oilers odds preview with a deeper look at Jim Montgomery’s club.

Bruins Start a Brutal Upcoming Schedule
Starting with this game at Rogers Place, the Boston Bruins will play six of their next seven games on the road in what could be a season-defining stretch of games.
Four of those games are against legitimate Stanely Cup contenders. It’s not so much the opponents that the Bruins will play as much as it is the 11 games in 19 days that will be the problem. Sure they’ll play the Edmonton Oilers twice, the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights, and the Toronto Maple Leafs but the devil is in the scheduling details with back-to-back games against the Oilers and Calgary, a revenge spot for Boston, before traveling to Vancouver to face the Canucks who are in a revenge spot of their own.
Despite all their success, the B’s are in the red for bettors (-2.85 units) because they’ve lost 11 times in overtime, only the Islanders have lost more in the extra session (14). This marks just the sixth time the Bruins have been an underdog all NHL season, but are 3-2 in those games (+1.01 units). The NHL rumor mill cranks up this time of year and for Boston, if they’re going to reach their goal of a Cup final, we anticipate the team will add a veteran defenseman who can kill off penalties.
Oilers Look To Improve On 20-3 Run
Since right around Christmas, no team in the NHL has been better than the Edmonton Oilers. Speaking of the NHL rumor mill, you can bet the Oilers are not going to stand pat with what they have as the trade deadline approaches.
They’ll be looking for scoring depth as the elite teams tend to do this time of year. We think their top six is as good as anyone in the league with or without a trade We think like in recent seasons, the goaltending tandem of Stuart Skinner (25-12-1, 2.57) and Calvin Pickard (7-2, 2.47) has to hold up against the better teams in the league.
To the betting public, the Oilers are not yet an automatic play with -0.23 units lost this season behind a 33-19 real record. That number improves to 17-7 (+1.49 units) at home. Over the last five years, the Oilers and the Bruins have split their games with each winning five. Edmonton is 9-5 against Boston since the 2015-16 season (+6.76 units) overall but just 3-4 (-0.81) when playing at home.
There’s A Reason The Juice Is On The Under
The Edmonton Oilers have averaged 5.25 goals per game over their last four, while the Boston Bruins are fresh off two games that averaged eight goals per game.
Yet, we have a total that is juiced to the under. The fact is when both of these teams are at their best it’s because of how they play in front of their netminder that gets them in the win column.
We think the magnitude of this game will bring out the best of Linus Ullmark and Stuart Skinner making our official NHL expert pick under 6 (-120). That does it for our Bruins vs Oilers odds preview, all the best with your wagers tonight.
